About This Role

Job Description

• Collaborate with the Head of Performing Arts Academy to design and deliver lessons and units for both Middle School and Senior School students.

• Partner with the Head of Performing Arts to oversee the school choir program and CCA that align with the interests and needs of students throughout the institution.

• Contribute to the enhancement of teaching and learning in Music and across the school by sharing resources and exemplary practices.

• Demonstrate a strong dedication to organizing and participating in music events and activities coordinated by the Performing Arts Academy.

• Ensure that all safeguarding, health and safety protocols, and other College policies are understood and integrated into daily practices.

• Plan and facilitate engaging and creative learning experiences for students in a nurturing and secure environment.

• Create an inclusive learning atmosphere, adapting educational approaches to accommodate individual student needs.

• Collaboratively plan within the context of the FCG Senior and Middle School curriculum to build upon students' knowledge and skills while highlighting interconnections among different curriculum areas.

• Continuously assess student learning and progress, using these evaluations to inform instructional planning.

• Complete Orders and Reports as per established guidelines.

• Maintain a strong focus on students' learning methodologies, fostering an engaging environment that encourages independent learning, creative thinking, and problem-solving skills.

• Build strong relationships with parents and the broader community through effective communication.

• Develop and enhance a variety of techniques to support English Language Learners.

• Inspire each student to reach their fullest potential and strive for excellence.

• Commit to the continuous development of a holistic, student-centered curriculum, drawing from global best practices.

• Provide effective support for each student’s personal, social, and emotional growth.

• Actively engage in the life of the school, including participation in co-curricular activities.

• Supervise students during break times and manage evening prep duty to assist boarders with homework once a week.

• Occasionally support school admissions and marketing events on weekends.

• Organize subject assemblies to showcase student learning upon request.

• Attend school events such as parent meetings that may occur outside regular working hours.

• Maintain an engaging classroom atmosphere by regularly updating displays.

Professional Development:

• Participate in ongoing self-evaluation of professional practice, collaborating with teams and receiving support from the School Leadership Team.

• Engage in continuous professional development opportunities, including but not limited to IB workshops, subject-specific training, and safeguarding training.

• Stay informed about current pedagogical trends and curriculum developments in international education.

• Aim to expand professional boundaries and embrace innovative approaches.

• Set professional learning goals aligned with the developmental needs of the school and College, ensuring equal opportunities for all.

Skills/Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Music with a recognized teaching qualification (such as PGCE, BEd, MEd).

• At least 2 years of teaching experience in a classroom setting.

• A passion for working with students and the ability to engage them in the learning process.

• Strong listening skills, demonstrating respect for the ideas of students, parents, and colleagues.

• Proactive problem-solving abilities.

• Collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively within a team.

• Willingness to gain a comprehensive understanding of the PYP, MYP, and CNC (Chinese National Curriculum).

• Preferred skills in vocal or keyboard performance.

• Capacity to promote student learning through continuous formative assessment in the classroom.

• Strong organizational abilities.

• Effective utilization of ICT in all aspects of instruction and learning.

• Understanding and commitment to child safeguarding.

• Participation in co-curricular programs.

• Previous experience in an international school setting is preferred.

• Familiarity with inquiry-based teaching and a solid understanding of its application in the classroom is preferred.
