About This Role

Reports to: Subject Leader of Drama

Responsibilities: The ideal candidate will instruct Drama for students in Years 7-13 (including IGCSE and IBDP) and teach Music to Years 7-9. They will also create additional opportunities for Drama and Music outside of classroom settings and play a crucial role in the extracurricular program. Furthermore, the individual will act as a form tutor within BST’s vertical pastoral framework.

The Drama and Music Departments

At BST, the Drama and Music departments are robust and operate autonomously, each led by two dedicated full-time specialists. Both departments are housed in a newly revamped area designed to enhance quality teaching, rehearsal, and performance. The Key Stage 3 curriculum for both subjects is crafted internally to provide a solid foundation for students as they advance to Key Stages 4 and 5. At the examination level, students pursue the Cambridge IGCSE in Drama and Music, followed by the IBDP, which offers both Theatre and Music at Standard and Higher Levels. The co-curricular program is a notable strength of the school, with Drama and Music playing a prominent role in various productions, concerts, and performance opportunities. Students consistently achieve excellent results in external examinations, with many alumni advancing to prestigious drama schools and music institutions in the UK and internationally.

This role is perfect for an enthusiastic educator with a genuine passion for Drama and Music, who values effective, evidence-driven teaching methods, possesses extensive subject knowledge to challenge all learners, and has experience working with diverse ability groups. We seek a supportive colleague who is collaborative, reflective, and willing to go the extra mile. A strong commitment to extracurricular Drama and Music activities, including performances and clubs before and after school, is a key expectation of this position.
