About This Role

Are you a passionate Speech-Language Therapist ready to make a profound impact within a vibrant, supportive educational community?

At Tauranga Special School, we believe every student deserves a voice and the opportunity to engage fully with the world around them. We are seeking a dedicated professional to join our trans-disciplinary team in a permanent, full-time capacity.

As a core member of our Therapy Team, you won't be working in a clinic, you’ll be embedded in the heart of students' daily lives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Empower communication: Support speech, language, and AAC development to help students navigate their education and community.

  • Ensure safety: Provide expert assessment and management for eating, drinking, and swallowing (dysphagia) needs.

  • Collaborate for success: Work hand-in-hand with teachers, whānau, and fellow specialists to create holistic, practical strategies that work in real-world settings.

To excel in this role, you will bring clinical expertise and collaborative spirit.

Qualifications

  • An NZSTA-eligible degree in Speech-Language Therapy.

  • Specialist knowledge in the theory, research and practice related to eating, drinking and swallowing, speech language and AAC systems, human development, learning and behaviour.

  • A genuine commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga in your practice.

  • The ability to translate complex theory into actionable support for families, ākonga, and classroom staff.

  • The ability to coordinate service provision in a multi-agency, trans-disciplinary setting.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with students and their families, teachers and other community agencies.

What We Offer

We offer a competitive salary and the chance to work in a supportive, trans-disciplinary environment where your contribution is truly valued. Every day we aim to make the biggest difference possible for our children and young adults.
