JOB DESCRIPTION
Purpose of Role
The aim of this role is to inspire students in your subject area and to enrich their enjoyment and success in learning.
Responsible To
This position reports to the Head of Secondary for all related matters.
Responsible For
You will be responsible for students in your English first language classes.
Responsibilities
- Actively support and advance the BCIS Mission, Vision, and Values.
- Align your teaching methods with the BCIS Learning Principles within the English learning environment.
- Work with EAL mainstream program teachers to ensure smooth graduation and transition into mainstream English classes.
- Comply with all school policies concerning staff and student conduct.
Key Tasks
Learning and Teaching
- Collaborate with the Head of Department and fellow educators to plan, prepare, teach, and evaluate work schemes in accordance with the National Curriculum of England and Wales (in an international context) and exam board criteria for internal assessments and external examinations.
- Ensure that all preparations are inclusive of the diverse needs of every student.
- Employ a variety of teaching and learning strategies consistent with the BCIS Learning Principles to meet curricular objectives and accommodate all students through differentiation and group focus.
- Foster a learning environment that exemplifies the BCIS Learning Principles in action.
- Provide consistent feedback and ensure that all work is marked and assessed according to School and Subject Policies, including practices for assessment for learning (AfL).
- Analyze assessment results and utilize this data for planning individual learning and class-wide strategies.
- Regularly assign homework in accordance with the school’s Homework Policy to reinforce and extend students’ learning and promote their responsibility for their education.
- Manage the assessment, recording, and reporting process for students, in line with school and subject policies.
- Organize trips and events related to the subject to enhance students’ learning experiences.
- Prepare appropriate cover work during your absences.
- Provide coverage for absent colleagues in a reasonable and fair manner.
Communication
- Meet regularly with the Secondary English department to discuss, provide feedback, and participate in planning activities.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with EAL mainstream teachers to ensure smooth transitions from the immersion program to mainstream English classes.
- Work cooperatively with learning support/SEN teachers.
- Liaise with Primary School teachers as needed regarding student transfers.
- Promote positive relationships between home and school.
- Report to parents during consultation meetings and through end-of-year reporting.
- Be accessible to parents at mutually agreed times as needed.
