About This Role

GEMS Cambridge International School, Abu Dhabi is on the lookout for a passionate and committed Science Teacher (KS3 & KS4) specializing in Physics or Chemistry, to become a part of our educational community starting in August 2026. The ideal candidate will inspire and engage students in Key Stages 3 and 4 by delivering exceptional lessons that spark curiosity, enhance scientific comprehension, and cultivate a passion for learning. This role presents an exciting chance to significantly influence student achievement within a nurturing and collaborative teaching atmosphere.

Overall Function and Purpose: To educate and guide students in accordance with the National Curriculum Framework, under the overall direction of the relevant educational authority. The teacher will assess and teach assigned students based on their educational needs, delivering the appropriate curriculum to ensure academic success for every student while contributing to the broader school community.

Main Responsibilities:
• Deliver the prescribed curriculum, demonstrating current and accurate knowledge of subject matter and curriculum requirements.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment that promotes optimal student outcomes.
• Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons tailored to the diverse abilities of all students in the class.
• Teach in alignment with the educational needs, abilities, and achievements of individual students and groups.
• Collaborate with the school development plan and work towards its implementation.
• Assign, correct, and provide feedback on student work while adhering to the school's marking policy.
• Set high expectations for each student and support them in realizing their potential to reflect high standards in their work.
• Assess, record, and report on students' development, progress, attainment, and behavior.
• Analyze data to adapt teaching practices that ensure all learners reach their full potential.
• Provide or contribute to oral and written assessments, reports, and references concerning individual or groups of students.
• Engage in national performance appraisal arrangements for students.
• Promote the overall progress and well-being of individual students, groups, or classes.
• Offer guidance and advice to students regarding educational and social matters, as well as their future educational targets.
• Collaborate and communicate with fellow staff members, including those in positions of special responsibility, as well as parents and guardians.
• Reflect on and evaluate personal teaching and learning strategies in accordance with National Curriculum Framework guidelines to enhance classroom instruction.
• Work with the Head of School, Deputy Heads, Assistant Head Teachers, Heads of Years, Education Officers, and other teachers in developing curriculum design, teaching materials, methodologies, and pastoral care arrangements.
• Uphold high standards of professional practice and quality in teaching and learning within the subject area, engaging in peer review and observation as part of professional dialogue.
• Participate in ongoing professional development (CPD) opportunities and action research initiatives.
• Maintain discipline and order among students under supervision, ensuring their health and safety at all times.
• Report any concerns that may compromise student safety, whether emotional or physical, to the school's safeguarding officer.
• Attend staff and group meetings related to the school curriculum or pastoral care for effective school organization and administration.
• Contribute to the professional development of new and student teachers in accordance with agreements made with the Head of School.
• Provide necessary information to designated school personnel regarding requisitions and arrangements connected to the assigned subjects.
• Ensure the proper care and optimal use of equipment utilized during lessons, ensuring regular servicing and maintenance.
• Safeguard the custody of the laptop, whiteboard pen, and remote provided to you upon commencement.
• Participate in school assemblies and parent meetings as directed by the Head of Primary.
• Attend termly parent meetings as per policy.
• Monitor and record attendance for students under your care, following up on the same day if a student is absent.
• Ensure attendance is marked consistently and punctually each day.
• Contribute to the effective management, organization, order, and discipline of the school in any reasonable manner possible.
• Foster a culture where teachers see themselves primarily as facilitators of learning and reflective practitioners.
• Collaborate with Learning Support Assistants to develop and implement Individual Educational Programs (IEPs) for students with special educational needs, participating in relevant meetings.
• Ensure that lesson plans and work forecasts are provided to Learning Support Assistants in a timely manner for necessary adaptations and resources.
• Regularly discuss and monitor the work of Learning Support Assistants in the classroom.
• For students with severe learning difficulties and communication issues, maintain an updated Contact Book daily, including necessary information and parent signatures.
• Work alongside specialist teachers and other professionals who support SEN students.
• Ensure the effective deployment of a Teacher’s Assistant when applicable.
• Utilize audiovisual technology and other adaptations during lesson delivery, employing creative and innovative methods to enhance classroom learning.
• Participate in the planning and preparation of extracurricular activities (ECAs) within the year group, in line with school policy.
• Carry out duties assigned by the Head of Year or Head of School.
• Assist in the planning and organization of school events and functions, such as inter-house competitions and prize days.

Compensation

£35,000 - £55,000 (Tax-Free Equivalent)
*Estimated range based on regional data averages.
