About This Role

Full Primary Y0–8 |Roll: approx. 300 | Located in Huntly, Waikato | 5 minutes to SH1 motorway access


Kimihia School is a well-established, values-driven full primary in Huntly, offering the best of small-town community with easy connectivity - just minutes from State Highway 1 and approximately one hour to both Auckland and Hamilton city centres.


This position becomes available as we farewell our long-serving Principal who is retiring after dedicated service to our community. The Board now seeks an exceptional leader to guide the next chapter, protecting and strengthening our culture of whanaungatanga, inclusive student-centred learning, and high expectations for achievement and behaviour.


Key Responsibilities


We are looking for a leader who is:

  • Relational and community-focused: visible, approachable and committed to strong partnerships with staff, students and whānau; fostering genuine school whānau culture

  • Instructionally strong: demonstrating deep knowledge of curriculum, strengthening literacy and numeracy foundations, promoting consistent high-quality teaching practice, and using evidence to drive improvement, including the ability to strengthen inclusive systems for diverse and high-needs learners

  • Culturally grounded and Tiriti-informed: honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi, valuing te reo Māori me ōna tikanga, and ensuring identity, culture and belonging are visible in school life

  • Strategically capable, providing clear direction while maintaining operational stability and thoughtful improvement
