The Student Services department at Crofton House School is made up of committed teachers, advisors, and personal counsellors who support students academically, socially, and emotionally. They work together to place the student at the center of her educational journey, creating programs and structures that aid her decisions about learning, well-being, and future aspirations. Our student services facilities are equipped with advanced technology, providing bright and engaging environments.
You are a seasoned professional in your field. As a qualified school counsellor and educator, you possess a profound understanding of the unique challenges faced by girls in grades 8 to 12. You approach personal counselling with empathy, therapeutic strategies, and cultural awareness, while being mindful of mental health and the social-emotional development of students. Alongside supporting students, you mentor teachers to help them recognize the personal challenges their students face and guide them in implementing beneficial strategies for all learners. You collaborate with the SEL and Wellness Coordinator to design and execute SEL initiatives for grades 8-12, and you assist Heads of Grade in identifying trends and providing necessary support for individual students. Additionally, you will facilitate professional development for teachers and information sessions for parents throughout the year as required.

Your working days will typically be Wednesday to Friday, although these may adjust based on the operational needs of the school.
Responsibilities:
• Provide tailored support for the social and emotional challenges faced by girls.
• Facilitate and support extended advisory SEL and Health sessions for students in partnership with the Student Wellbeing and SEL Coordinator.
• Assist Heads of Grade in recognizing grade-wide trends and addressing individual student needs as necessary.
• Conduct professional development sessions for teachers as required.
• Organize information sessions for parents as needed.
• Facilitate meetings with students, parents, and Senior School teachers.
• Keep documentation and records for individual students, maintaining confidentiality in all reporting.
• Offer constructive feedback to advisors and parents regarding student progress and support strategies.
• Collaborate with external community support services to enhance student well-being.
• Work as a collaborative and supportive team member within the Student Services department.
• Participate in school meetings and events, including grade-level meetings, school planning, and professional development.
• Contribute to the Peer Support program.
• Stay informed about mental health developments within schools and provide advice to the Assistant Director, Student Services as necessary.
• Promote a positive and supportive learning environment.
• Set annual professional goals.
• Contribute to the Personal Counsellors’ annual written report for the board.
• Support co-curricular activities as a teacher sponsor.
• Actively engage and contribute positively to the school community.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience:
• Essential: Registered with a provincial or national professional organization.
• Asset: Holds a B.C. Ministry of Education Certificate or meets Independent School Certification qualifications.
• Relevant university qualifications (e.g., Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Arts or equivalent).
• Master’s degree in Psychology, Counselling Psychology, or Social Work.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, negotiation, and mediation abilities.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and personal growth.
• Enthusiasm, dedication, and a willingness to participate in the co-curricular program and the diverse life of the school community.
• Experience within an independent school setting is advantageous.
• Demonstrated understanding of the learning preferences of girls and young women.
Employment and Application Details:
Classes will begin in September 2026, following teacher orientation in late August 2026.

Annual Compensation: $69,541 - $123,242, determined by experience and educational qualifications. This amount will be pro-rated based on FTE.
