High School DEAN OF STUDENTS
About This Role
GEMS American Academy Secondary Division is in search of a Dean of Students. This role is essential in fostering the character development of students within the Secondary Division. The Dean of Students will play a vital role in promoting the IB Learner traits, Approaches to Learning (AtLs), and the components of the School Development Plan. Additionally, the Dean will contribute to maintaining GAA’s mission, vision, and educational philosophy.
QUALIFICATIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Secondary Principal, the Dean of Students will:
● Engage in the creation and upkeep of a positive and coordinated educational program tailored to meet the needs of all students
● Advocate for and help develop Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and restorative practices
● Collaborate closely with the High School and Middle School Vice-Principals to ensure adherence to the student handbook and provide targeted program assistance
● Refer students to counselors and the Student Support Team (SST) to address individual student needs
● Assist with the student orientation and induction process
● Enhance teacher capabilities in managing Level 1 infractions and provide recommendations for Level 2 or Level 3 infractions
● Collaborate with the Pedagogical Leadership Team (PLT) to manage and set agendas for Heads of Grade meetings
● Support teachers by conducting regular classroom walkthroughs, offering feedback focused on classroom structure, student engagement, and management
● Work alongside the PLT to plan, coordinate, and implement school-wide professional development initiatives
● Coordinate with the Secondary Systems Coordinator to prepare necessary reports for accreditations as requested by the Principal or Head of School
● Attend grade-level meetings as required and all Heads of Department meetings
● Actively participate as a member of the Pedagogical Leadership Team
● Maintain clear and consistent communication with parents regarding student behavior, attendance, and other pastoral issues
● Perform additional duties as assigned by Secondary School Administration.
