About This Role

Head of Modern Foreign Languages (German Specialism)

We are looking for an accomplished educator with a deep understanding of German language and culture, who can provide exceptional teaching and learning experiences through outstanding classroom practices. The ideal candidate will oversee a small yet highly motivated team of MFL and EAL instructors and will be responsible for delivering German instruction across the school from Year 7 to Year 13 in our dedicated German classroom.

French (Years 7-9) and German (Year 9) are mandatory subjects within our curriculum, while they also serve as elective choices at GCSE and A Level. Although modern languages are not required subjects at GCSE level, the enrollment for Year 10 remains consistently robust. The two languages are offered independently, allowing students the option to pursue both at GCSE and in the Sixth Form. We utilize the Edexcel specifications at GCSE and AQA at A Level, which provide our students with both academic rigor and a comprehensive view of the cultures of the relevant language-speaking countries.

Our department maintains high standards and believes that a systematic approach to grammar and vocabulary acquisition, along with ample opportunities for speaking and listening, is critical for developing successful linguists. Our history of achievement with students of all abilities can be attributed in part to our small class sizes, which are particularly conducive to language instruction.

This role presents a unique chance to teach in a truly international environment, where approximately half of our students come from abroad. Our inquisitive and creative student body appreciates and values diverse languages and cultures. With small class sizes, articulate learners, and a supportive staff community, this position offers an ideal setting for a passionate and dynamic linguist to make a significant impact.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

This is a full-time position set to commence in September 2026. The salary will be competitive, based on the candidate’s experience.

All staff members are expected to actively participate in the School's extracurricular and/or boarding offerings.
