The Position: Head of Food Science

Starting in September 2026, we are looking for an outstanding and dedicated Head of Food Science to become part of our team. This role presents an exciting chance to positively influence students by fostering their creativity and practical abilities in food technology. As the Head of Department, you will motivate and guide students as they delve into the realms of nutrition, culinary arts, and food science, equipping them with a solid foundation for future pursuits in the food sector. The successful candidate will oversee a distinguished department that enjoys both popularity and success year after year.

In your capacity as Head of Food Science, your responsibilities will include delivering dynamic and hands-on lessons that motivate students to investigate the principles of food preparation, nutrition, and sustainability. You will lead students through the GCSE Food Technology curriculum, aiding them in acquiring the essential skills necessary for both academic success and future careers in food-related fields.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide engaging and innovative lessons in Food Technology, encompassing topics such as food science, nutrition, and culinary techniques.
• Assist students in comprehending sustainable food practices, food production, and health and safety standards.
• Cultivate a creative and experiential learning environment that encourages students to experiment and innovate within the kitchen.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure a comprehensive and cohesive curriculum that reflects the school’s values and educational objectives.
• Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and staff, offering regular updates on student progress and achievements.
• Get involved in extracurricular initiatives related to food technology, such as cooking clubs or food-focused events.

Skills

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

Qualifications and Experience:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Food Technology, Nutrition, Culinary Arts, or a related field.
• A PGCE, PGDE, or an equivalent teaching qualification.
• Demonstrated experience in teaching GCSE Food Technology with a proven track record of student success.
• A creative and enthusiastic teaching style both inside and outside the classroom.
• Strong IT and communication skills to effectively engage with students, parents, and colleagues.
• A commitment to professional growth, leadership, and sustainability in education.
