POSITION OVERVIEW

The Grade 6 MYP Mathematics and Science (STEM) Teacher is essential in facilitating student learning through inquiry-based, concept-driven education. This role promotes curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities, while guiding students to forge meaningful connections across subjects. Responsibilities include teaching both Grade 6 MYP Mathematics and MYP Science, closely collaborating with the Grade 6 Humanities teacher and fellow Mathematics and Science educators to ensure cohesive curriculum alignment, and contributing to the overall development of students in an inclusive, international setting.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaching and Learning

  • Create and implement engaging, inquiry-driven lessons in Grade 6 MYP Mathematics and MYP Science that embody IB philosophy and align with the school’s mission.
  • Develop concept-focused units that encourage problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking.
  • Employ a variety of formative and summative assessments to inform instruction and support student advancement.
  • Tailor instruction to cater to diverse learners, including multilingual students.
  • Incorporate technology and hands-on experiences to enhance conceptual understanding.
  • Foster a classroom atmosphere that is safe, respectful, and conducive to collaboration and exploration.

Curriculum and Collaboration

  • Contribute to the ongoing review, documentation, and enhancement of the curriculum within the IB MYP framework.
  • Work together with colleagues across disciplines to create interdisciplinary units and ensure curriculum alignment.
  • Actively participate in team meetings, professional learning communities, and school-wide initiatives.

Pastoral and Community Responsibilities

  • Serve as a homeroom mentor, supporting students’ well-being, social-emotional development, and academic progress.
  • Cultivate positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues based on mutual respect and open communication.
