About This Role
GEMS Wellington Academy – Al Khail is seeking an outstanding Director of Sport to join our team in August 2026.
The Director of Sport will provide strategic direction for our athletic programs, developing a high-performance framework that promotes excellence, engagement, and well-being among students. This role will emphasize creating pathways for elite athletes, overseeing both competitive and recreational sports, and enhancing the school’s reputation as a leading sports institution locally and internationally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and implementation of a holistic sports strategy for the entire school.
- Foster a culture of excellence, participation, and well-being across all student age groups.
- Create pathways for elite athletes in Tennis, Swimming, and Football.
- Manage sports scholarships, including recruitment oversight and performance evaluation.
- Oversee all competitive teams, fixtures, and competitions for students from Year 3 to Year 13.
- Ensure compliance with DASSA, DSG, and BSME regulations.
- Deliver a diverse and inclusive program of recreational sports and extracurricular activities.
- Organize national and international sports tours and events.
- Establish and maintain partnerships with external academies and service providers.
- Effectively manage sports facilities, resources, budgets, and equipment.
- Track participation and performance metrics to support athlete development.
- Create avenues for student leadership within the sports sector.
- Provide guidance and support to the PE and coaching staff team.
Skills
- Proven leadership experience in an educational or high-performance sports environment.
- Comprehensive understanding of athlete development pathways and sports program design.
- Demonstrated ability to manage large-scale sports programs and build external partnerships.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to motivate both participation and elite performance.
- Relevant degree in Sport Science, Physical Education, or a related field.
- Preferred qualifications include coaching credentials and additional leadership training.
