About the School

Britannica International School Shanghai is the only British-owned and managed international school in Shanghai, operating under the Orbital Education umbrella. Our curriculum is rooted in the Early Years Foundation Stage and the English National Curriculum, tailored to meet the needs of our diverse international student population. Secondary students are prepared for Cambridge University and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE and A Level examinations.

Our purpose-built, well-equipped facilities are situated in the prestigious Gubei residential area, just 20 minutes from the vibrant Former French Concession district. With a capacity for 750 students aged 18 months to 18 years, we take pride in fostering a close-knit, family-like atmosphere. Currently, we serve over 400 students, with class sizes capped at 22 pupils, often smaller.

About the Opportunity

We are searching for a Deputy Head of Primary to commence in August 2026. This role is ideal for those with prior leadership experience, including current Deputy Heads of Primary from the UK or overseas, as well as experienced Key Stage Leaders or Primary Coordinators aiming to transition into a senior leadership position.

Our mission is to maintain small class sizes and low teacher-to-student ratios, fostering a nurturing and personalized learning environment where every child is recognized and supported to flourish. The successful candidate will assist the Head of Primary in leading a dedicated team of educators, advocating for excellence in teaching and learning, and actively contributing to our vibrant and nurturing school community.

Qualifications

  • We welcome applications from candidates with experience in a UK school or an international institution delivering the English curriculum. Applicants must hold a relevant bachelor's degree from an accredited university and possess Qualified Teacher Status.
  • As a British school delivering the English National Curriculum to a diverse international student body, fluency in English as a first language is essential. We will prioritize applications from native-level English speakers.
