About This Role

UWCSEA is looking for a Head of Libraries - Teacher Librarian for its East Campus.

In this dual-role position, the Head of Libraries will lead and educate, focusing on both the strategic development and operational success of the East Campus libraries. Central to this role is our vision: connecting our community with the world through pages, people, and perspectives.

The successful applicant will manage two libraries and serve as the Grade 6-12 Teacher Librarian while overseeing library services across the campus. This role involves both strategic and operational leadership, ensuring the libraries function smoothly day-to-day, while also promoting innovative practices in school librarianship to transform libraries into progressive hubs that support our holistic learning initiatives. We aim to find an exceptional leader, with a potential start date in August 2026, January 2027, or August 2027. Please specify your preferred start date or availability in your cover letter.

The Head of Libraries is crucial to our commitment to Teaching for DEIJ, particularly in curating our library collection. This involves ensuring that our collection showcases diversity not just in representation but also in intellectual, cultural, historical, and ideological aspects, reflecting our dedication to intentional diversity. Additionally, a significant focus will be guiding the community as we adapt to the changing landscape of Artificial Intelligence (AI), ensuring the library remains a core resource for inquiry, academic integrity, and human connection.

Main Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Innovation


Visionary Strategy: Refine and implement our inspiring vision for the future of the East Campus libraries as innovative learning environments.


AI Integration & Leadership: Guide the campus in understanding the intersection of AI and information literacy, proactively identifying ways AI can enhance research and curation while establishing ethical usage frameworks.


Innovation Advocacy: Promote novel approaches to library services, discovering new methods to connect individuals and ideas.


Inter-Campus Collaboration: Forge strong strategic partnerships with the Dover Campus Library Team to ensure coherence and shared professional growth throughout the College.


Community Engagement: Actively engage with our parent community, positioning the Library as a vital aspect of our campus life.

Teaching, Learning & Academic Integrity


Academic Integrity: Support the community in upholding high standards of academic integrity, leading the development of resources to assist students with citation, attribution, and ethical information use.


Professional Learning: Facilitate professional development for staff, empowering educators to integrate advanced research skills and innovative library resources into their curricula.


Coaching: Collaborate with Learning Coaches and Heads of Department to embed meaningful literature engagement within units. Provide coaching and support for teachers and students on the specific requirements of TOK and the Extended Essay.

Curation & Space Design


Future-Forward Collections: Supervise the development of a diverse, high-quality collection (both physical and digital) that encompasses a variety of perspectives and equips students for a complex future.


Space Evolution: Work collaboratively to design library environments that are inclusive, adaptable, and conducive to deep focus and human interaction.


Discovery: Ensure the library is a space where readers feel empowered to uncover their own stories and those of others.

Operational Management


Team Effectiveness: Cultivate a culture of creativity, high standards, and professional wellbeing.


Professional Support: Provide line management and mentorship to the library team.


Budget & Resource Stewardship: Manage library budgets and resources transparently and in alignment with campus objectives.


Communication: Foster effective, proactive communication with all stakeholders (students, parents, and staff).

Expectations and Standards


Adhere to the UWCSEA Professional Code of Conduct and Safeguarding Code of Conduct.


Teach according to the UWCSEA Teacher Standards.

Person Specifications


A Master's degree in Library Science/Information Management AND/OR a degree with a professional teaching qualification and significant library leadership experience.


A proven history of driving innovation within a library or educational environment.


At least 5 years of experience in school libraries, demonstrating effective leadership and innovative practices.
