About This Role

Key Responsibilities

1) Teaching & Learning
- Deliver captivating Humanities lessons with a strong emphasis on Geography for students in KS3–KS5.
- Provide high-quality instruction in a secondary subject as needed, which may include Global Perspectives, Travel & Tourism, History, or related Humanities disciplines.
- Utilize effective teaching methods that foster inquiry, critical thought, and exploration based on geographical and humanities concepts.
- Aid in the cultivation of student attributes like curiosity, resilience, ethical awareness, and global perspective.
- Assist with transition activities between Primary and Secondary education, particularly for Geography and Humanities enrichment.

2) Curriculum, Assessment & Progress
- Participate in the design and enhancement of Schemes of Work in Humanities and assigned subjects, with the capacity to lead on Geography-related Schemes of Work and planning.
- Implement lessons that align with the British curriculum, including preparation for IGCSE and A Level as applicable.
- Plan and assess student work following departmental and school-wide policies.
- Employ assessment data to monitor progress, deliver timely feedback, and strategize for targeted interventions.
- Support the Head of Humanities by contributing materials for options booklets, the school's website, and examination resources.

3) Fieldwork, Trips & Enrichment
- Take the lead in designing, assessing risks, planning, and executing Geography fieldwork (both local and international when suitable).
- Assist with humanities enrichment activities such as:
- Geography or Humanities Weeks
- Global Perspectives workshops
- Community and cultural projects
- Debate or research clubs
- Foster student involvement in competitions such as essay contests, geography quizzes, map-reading competitions, or sustainability projects.

4) Pastoral, Inclusion & Student Wellbeing
- Act as a Personal Tutor, nurturing strong connections with students and their families.
- Promote a safe and respectful learning atmosphere that reflects the values and behavioral culture of RGSPP.
- Differentiate instruction effectively for students with EAL, SEND, and high-achieving learners.
- Provide additional academic support to students through clinics, catch-up sessions, or workshops.

5) Co-Curricular, Enrichment & Competitions
- Lead or assist in dynamic Humanities-related clubs such as Geography Society, Debate Club, Model United Nations (MUN), Global Issues Network, Sustainability Ambassadors, or Travel & Tourism enterprise groups.
- Contribute to holistic education at RGSPP through active involvement in the Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) program, the House System, and student leadership initiatives.
- Encourage and prepare students for academic competitions (e.g., essay challenges, geography bees, map-reading and GIS contests, MUN conferences, global citizenship challenges, and international humanities Olympiads).
- Organize guest speaker events, Humanities Weeks, cultural and identity activities, fieldwork days, inquiry-based workshops, and problem-solving or case-study challenges.
- Establish partnerships with local and international organizations such as universities, NGOs, cultural institutions, sustainability groups, museums, and heritage sites to provide authentic and real-world learning experiences.

6) Operational Responsibilities
- Maintain precise records of attendance, behavior, progress, and achievement.
- Engage in departmental planning, resource development, and data monitoring.
- Utilize school digital platforms effectively (e.g., MIS, reporting systems, online learning tools).
- Collaborate with operations and procurement teams to acquire necessary hardware, software, robotics kits, or licenses.
- Support whole-school events, duties, assemblies, and emergency protocols.

Essential Qualifications & Experience
- A degree in Geography or a closely related field.
- A recognized teaching qualification (PGCE, B.Ed., QTS, or equivalent).
- Experience teaching Geography at KS4 and KS5.
- Familiarity with the British curriculum (IGCSE/A Level).
- Experience in delivering or contributing to fieldwork.

Desirable Qualities
- Capability to teach Global Perspectives, Travel & Tourism, or another complementary subject.
- Experience teaching A Level Geography or an equivalent senior curriculum.
- Background in supporting co-curricular or enrichment programs.
- Experience working internationally or with EAL learners.
- Commitment to the values and ethos of RGSPP.

All Teachers at RGSPP
- Teach (or are available for Private Study supervision or cover) a designated timetable each week.
- Accept responsibilities within their department as reasonably required, including assisting with the setting and grading of internal examinations, entrance exams, and scholarship assessments, as well as recording results.
- Develop and share resources and best practices, actively participating in departmental meetings and contributing to the online departmental handbook.
- Set and grade assignments in line with School and departmental policies; provide constructive feedback; maintain accurate records of student attainment and progress; and write assessments and reports as necessary.
- Attend meetings (staff meetings, INSET, Parents’ Briefings) and engage with parents during scheduled school events and as appropriate.
