Key Responsibilities:

1. Subject Knowledge

- Uphold high expectations and standards while cultivating a positive school culture.
- Assist in the target-setting process within the music curriculum.
- Create engaging musical experiences that enhance students’ skills and appreciation for global music traditions.
- Stay informed on the latest trends in music education, including emerging technologies and instructional strategies.
- Help organize music-related events such as concerts, recitals, and school productions.
- Attend necessary meetings and professional development opportunities.
- Promote inclusion by celebrating diversity through music and ensuring equal access for all students.
- Monitor and document student progress through ongoing assessments and evaluations.

2. Curriculum Design and Adaptation

- Craft dynamic and engaging learning experiences to elevate musical knowledge and performance abilities.
- Align lesson plans with the National Curriculum for England (NCfE), incorporating cross-curricular connections where applicable.
- Differentiate instruction to accommodate all learners, ensuring inclusivity and support for varied skill levels.
- Leverage digital technology to enhance music education experiences.
- Strategically plan the use of resources, including instruments, software, and educational materials.
- Communicate student learning progress to parents, offering insights into their growth, mindset, and musical achievements.

3. Learning and Teaching

- Foster a positive learning atmosphere that encourages high expectations and active student engagement.
- Build a culture of trust and respect, promoting collaboration and confidence in musical expression.
- Inspire a passion for music by incorporating a variety of genres, styles, and international perspectives.
- Maintain a student-centered teaching approach, adapting lessons to individual interests and learning speeds.
- Encourage participation in music-related extracurricular activities and school performances.
- Support students as they transition between year groups by establishing strong foundational skills.

4. Collaboration and Community

- Regularly reflect on and assess teaching methods to enhance effectiveness continuously.
- Engage in coaching, peer observations, and professional development sessions.
- Collaborate with colleagues from various disciplines to enrich interdisciplinary learning experiences.
- Partner with teaching assistants, external music professionals, and educational support staff to deliver comprehensive music education.
- Participate in action research to investigate innovative teaching practices.
- Contribute to the school’s co-curricular offerings, such as choir, orchestra, or band programs.
- Strengthen relationships with parents and the community, promoting musical growth beyond the classroom.
- Support and uphold the school’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

5. Safeguarding, Inclusion, and Well-Being

Citizens School prioritizes the safeguarding and welfare of children and young people. This includes:

6. Other Responsibilities

- Demonstrate a strong understanding of music education as outlined in the NCfE.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of the school's music program, including extracurricular initiatives.
- Innovate and adapt teaching methods to address students' diverse musical interests and talents.
- Undertake additional duties as assigned by school leadership.

Qualifications and Experience:

- Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Valid teaching credential with a minimum of three years of experience in music education.
- Strong organizational, administrative, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and maintain confidentiality.
- Sensitivity to the unique learning needs and abilities of students.
- Proficiency in IT for both classroom instruction and administrative tasks.
- Familiarity with various musical instruments, music software, and performance techniques.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
