About This Role

Hampton stands out as one of the leading academically selective independent schools in the country, presenting an outstanding opportunity to become part of a vibrant and successful department within a joyful, high-achieving environment.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Teacher of French and Spanish to join our dynamic and well-regarded Modern Languages Department. Our students' passion for Modern Languages is fostered through imaginative, varied, and challenging curricula at all levels, including preparation for Oxbridge.

The Department's ethos emphasizes spoken confidence and fluency, grounded in a solid understanding of grammar. Lessons are typically conducted in the target language when appropriate, with a particular focus on role play and debate skills, especially in junior classes.

At Hampton, we prioritize equity, diversity, and inclusion as core elements of our ethos, and we maintain a thriving partnerships program.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for teaching up to 30 (40-minute) lessons per week, which typically includes a games afternoon and a form tutor period. This role encompasses lesson planning, marking, and reporting responsibilities.

Our Modern Languages Department offers a diverse range of trips and exchanges for all age groups, with a total of 12 visits abroad each year, strongly supported by our language staff and occasionally conducted in collaboration with Lady Eleanor Holles School, a prominent independent girls’ school adjacent to Hampton. These international excursions are opt-in and take place during school holidays, while exchange schools visit us during term time. Information about all Modern Languages trips is available on the School's website, and we also organize regular visits to the theater, cinema, and galleries. Fifth and Sixth Form linguists periodically engage with guest speakers.

Staff at Hampton are also expected to contribute to the wider school community, and the successful candidate will be encouraged to participate in a wide array of co-curricular activities, including Sports, Music, Drama, and the Adventure Society, among others.

We invite applications as soon as possible; however, the School maintains the right to fill the position at any point during the recruitment process.
