About This Role

We are thrilled to announce an opening for the part-time role of Artist Technician (0.5) within our vibrant Arts Faculty. The ideal candidate will be an active Visual Artist with a strong enthusiasm for engaging with youth and a wide-ranging interest in the Arts. This role goes beyond the studio, as you will play an integral part in our diverse exhibitions, performances, and festivals. Experience or interest in Theatre and Music will be highly valued, as we appreciate versatile creative talents that can enrich projects across the faculty.

This role is designed for a proactive person who can deliver reliable "behind-the-scenes" support while being approachable to students. You will be skilled in preparing materials and ensuring that art studios are properly maintained, while also assisting students with intricate projects and boosting the department’s profile through innovative extracurricular initiatives. As a vital member of the College’s creative community, you will possess the interpersonal skills necessary to foster positive relationships at all levels, ensuring that students are inspired to reach their full creative potential in a lively and dynamic faculty.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Student Engagement & Co-Curricular Life

  • Facilitate extracurricular clubs that introduce new creative disciplines such as 3D design, textiles, fashion, or other specialized techniques.
  • Assist during practical classes according to the Art department's daily schedule.
  • Support the wider Arts co-curricular program; availability for evening events is crucial for biannual exhibitions and preferred for performances and concerts.
  • Collaborate with the Drama and/or Music departments as creative opportunities arise.

Technical Artistic Support

  • Guide students in using specialized equipment and provide technical assistance for a variety of mixed-media projects.
  • Ensure that studios are kept in a clean, safe, and fully functional condition.

Exhibition, Display & Curation

  • Help with the practical logistics and setup of time-sensitive "pop-up" external or assessment exhibitions, as well as permanent internal displays, including mounting, framing, dismantling, and refreshing student artwork.
  • Photograph and document artwork for exam board submissions and archiving purposes.
  • Occasionally create visual content for social media and departmental promotional efforts.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a Visual Arts or Design field.
  • Thorough understanding of health and safety standards in an Art studio or workshop environment.
  • Proficient in English, with the capability to communicate effectively and professionally in an educational setting.
  • Outstanding organizational skills and familiarity with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, etc.).
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary Arts team.

Desirable Experience and Skills

  • Educational Background: Prior experience in an Art department or Arts Faculty within an educational institution.
  • Demonstrated ongoing creative practice as a Visual Artist.
  • Strong interest in Theatre and/or Music, with a readiness to contribute technical skills to set design or performance support.
  • Experience and comfort working in a bilingual, internationally oriented, liberal, and inclusive school environment.
  • A genuine commitment to nurturing the development of young people and helping them achieve their full creative potential.
