Mandarin-Speaking School Counselor (Social-Emotional)
About This Role
Unity Concord International School is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Mandarin-Speaking School Counselor (Social-Emotional) to support the well-being and social-emotional development of our students. The successful candidate will play a vital role in providing counseling services, fostering positive mental health, and cultivating a safe and inclusive learning environment.
In this role, you will work closely with the Director of Counseling, educators, school leadership, and families to meet the social-emotional needs of students, ensuring that effective interventions and support systems are implemented. This position will specifically assist Mandarin-speaking students and their families, ensuring effective communication and culturally informed guidance as needed.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide individual counseling to students encountering social, emotional, or behavioral challenges.
• Conduct small group counseling sessions focused on social skills, emotional regulation, friendship development, and conflict resolution.
• Deliver counseling in Mandarin to Mandarin-speaking students to promote accessibility and comfort.
• Serve as a bridge between Mandarin-speaking families and the school regarding student welfare.
• Conduct student check-ins and provide early interventions for those exhibiting emotional or behavioral concerns.
• Collaborate with teachers and staff to support student behavior, peer relationships, and classroom environments.
• Participate in parent meetings and provide culturally sensitive guidance to families when necessary.
• Assist in implementing the school’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework to address student social-emotional and behavioral needs.
• Facilitate and support social-emotional learning lessons in alignment with the Second Step SEL curriculum.
• Contribute to the development and execution of social-emotional learning (SEL) programs and preventive mental health initiatives.
• Maintain accurate, confidential, and professional records of counseling sessions and student support plans.
• Consult with teachers on strategies to aid students with emotional and behavioral challenges.
• Advocate for school-wide well-being initiatives, workshops, and mental health awareness activities.
• Collaborate with the counseling team on student Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) and intervention strategies.
Qualifications
Required:
• A degree in School Counseling, Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field.
• Proficiency in both Mandarin and English (spoken and written).
• Experience working with children or adolescents in educational or youth-focused settings.
• Understanding of social-emotional learning frameworks and student support systems.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards.
• Eligibility for a work permit and visa in Thailand.
Preferred:
• Experience in an international school environment.
• Experience supporting multilingual or multicultural student populations.
• Familiarity with MTSS frameworks and tiered support systems for students.
• Experience implementing or supporting Second Step or comparable SEL programs.
