ROLE SPECIFICATION
As the Head of Computer Science, you will be a vital contributor to the digital transformation at the College. Your involvement will be crucial in discussions regarding the implementation of AI across the institution and in shaping key decisions. Whether you’re introducing innovative concepts for college-wide strategies or exemplifying best practices, your expertise will be essential.

At BCVN, collaboration among educators is a fundamental aspect of everyday operations, providing you with ample opportunities to observe how technology is being utilized in various classrooms while also sharing your own insights. Students at BCVN engage in numerous extracurricular activities, including robotics, and the college boasts an extensive array of computing resources, such as Lego robotics kits.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Foster a positive team environment.
- Set and model high standards for teaching and learning.
- Introduce creative initiatives and lead collaborative projects to maintain a diverse and engaging curriculum that allows students to explore the subject and grow within your department.
- Ensure that all department members motivate each student to achieve their academic potential through enthusiastic, personalized teaching, targeted stretch and challenge, meticulous record-keeping, and follow-up.
- Monitor and track the progress of all students within your department.
- Collaborate with your departmental team on setting and addressing individual student needs.
- Oversee the annual update of departmental policies, handbooks, and documentation, encompassing staffing, curriculum planning, schemes of work, timetabling, job descriptions, budget management, INSET, assessments, meetings, guest visits, and risk assessments.
- Ensure that Schemes of Work are current and effectively implemented.
- Supervise examinations and assessments within the department.
- Take a lead role in the future development of your department within the College.
- Manage the departmental budget and oversee the ordering of all necessary equipment.
- Ensure the department’s contributions to the College website, social media, and publications are timely and accurate.
- Oversee and proofread departmental reports.
- Be accountable for your Departmental Development Plan and contribute to the College's Self Evaluation and Development Plan.
- Attend all required meetings and INSET, contributing to Heads of Department discussions.
- Organize and lead regular departmental meetings.
- Stay updated on the latest educational practices, philosophies, and advancements in your subject area.
- Maintain strong connections and regular communication with professional organizations associated with your department.
- Lead by example in all aspects of school life and serve as a powerful role model for colleagues as an exemplary practitioner.

Teaching and Learning
- Encourage every student to realize their academic potential through enthusiastic, personalized teaching, targeted stretch and challenge, and thorough record-keeping and follow-up.
- Comply with all College policies, including those related to marking, assessment, teaching and learning, and reporting.
- Develop and share schemes of work and resources using the College's formats.
- Provide assistance in covering colleagues when necessary.
- Attend all required meetings and INSET sessions.
- Prepare, invigilate, and assess internal and external tests and examinations as needed.

Pastoral
- Adhere to and act on all policies related to child safeguarding.
- Function within a house structure as a Tutor for a designated year group.
- Take an active interest in each child's personal and home circumstances, fostering their personal and social development.
- Actively promote the social, moral, and cultural values of the College community.
- Encourage pride in the College among students through high standards of dress, behavior, and commitment.
- Create a supportive atmosphere by being aware of and fully compliant with all College policies.
- Familiarize yourself with all health and safety policies and proactively ensure the safety of all members of the College community at all times.
- Promote exemplary behavior and responsible attitudes among all students consistently.
- Be aware of and adhere to the College's reward and disciplinary policies, encouraging responsible behavior at all times.
- Act on all policies regarding the safeguarding of children.

Professional Responsibilities
- Foster pride in the College among students through high standards of dress, behavior, and commitment.
- Ensure timely and appropriate responses to all communications.
- Attend parents’ evenings, assemblies, performances, sporting events, and other special school occasions during term time as required by the Head of College.
- Be accountable for all College resources, especially those in your care, reporting any damage or loss to the relevant authority.
- Contribute to the virtual learning environment, including the website, social media, and publications in support of your work.
- Cultivate a close partnership with parents by initiating contact when necessary and ensuring records of these interactions.
- Fulfill any reasonable professional requests from the Head of College or members of the SLT and actively support the Co-Curricular Programme.
