About This Role

GEMS Al Barsha National School is on the lookout for a dedicated and experienced Head of Arabic Studies to start in August 2026. This is a fantastic chance to become part of a flourishing educational institution that merges the National Curriculum for England with a deep commitment to UAE national values, culture, and identity. As the Head of the Arabic Studies Department, you will take on a pivotal role in providing strategic direction for curriculum development, teaching practices, and learning outcomes, ensuring excellence in Arabic education.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, this position emphasizes the delivery of an engaging, research-informed curriculum that incorporates contemporary pedagogical techniques, technology, and a student-centered approach. The successful candidate will mentor fellow teachers, encourage cultural appreciation, and forge strong relationships with educational organizations to boost student success and uphold national educational standards.

You will be tasked with leading and enhancing pedagogical practices across all departments. Supporting Subject Leaders in making informed decisions regarding curriculum, assessment, and resource development will also be part of your role, alongside spearheading intervention and development plans tailored for individual educators as needed.

Providing leadership and guidance to Arabic teachers and curriculum support staff is essential, ensuring that high standards of teaching and learning are met, along with the effective incorporation of educational technology throughout all phases. You will monitor the Arabic teaching programs to guarantee they remain innovative and meet established standards, key concepts, and knowledge expectations.

Setting and achieving improvement targets for students is crucial, ensuring that staff are well-versed in leveraging data to elevate attainment and expedite progress. Collaborating with your team to analyze department data will help identify students at risk of underperforming, enabling targeted interventions to secure their success.

Additionally, you will assess the professional development needs of all team members, create suitable training opportunities, and promote the sharing of best practices. Leading the Performance Management process for the team, you will pinpoint areas for growth and develop appropriate staff development plans when necessary. Furthermore, you will advocate for the subject area through Open Days and Options Evenings, creating opportunities to enhance the visibility of Arabic studies throughout the academic year.
