The Ministry of Education, through the Provincial and Demonstration Schools Branch at the Milton Campus (Ernest C. Drury School for the Deaf and Trillium Demonstration School), provides lodging programs for students that are dedicated to meeting the academic, personal, social, emotional, and developmental needs of children. About the Job

What will your responsibilities entail?

In this role, you will:

  • Prepare a diverse selection of food using standard volume cooking methods, ensuring adherence to established menus, work schedules, and dietary guidelines.
  • Keep the food service area, including equipment and utensils, clean and organized.
  • Assist in receiving and stocking food supplies.
  • Help with inventory management.
  • Perform additional tasks related to the operation of a large school cafeteria.

What qualifications do you possess?

Knowledge and Experience:

  • You have comprehensive knowledge of food preparation and storage procedures, along with the operation of kitchen equipment, typically acquired through a post-secondary culinary training program or relevant work experience.
  • You possess a Food Handlers Certificate or are willing to obtain one.
  • You have demonstrated experience with institutional cooking methods, especially in large volume production.
  • You are knowledgeable about the use of commercial and institutional food preparation equipment.
  • You understand nutritional principles that aid in menu development.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

  • You exhibit strong communication skills, with the ability to understand and follow both written and verbal directions.
  • You can work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.

Physical Work:

  • You are capable of working shifts and handling physically demanding tasks.
