Careers Counsellor
About This Role
GEMS Wellington Academy, Al Khail is seeking to hire a Careers Counsellor to begin immediately. This role is essential in assisting students as they navigate their career ambitions, higher education options, and post-18 pathways. The Careers Counsellor is crucial in promoting the school’s values, helping students establish healthy goals, mindsets, and behaviors. By working closely with faculty, parents, and external partners, the Counsellor ensures that students are well-equipped to make informed choices about their future. The ideal candidate will have a proven history of providing effective counselling and guidance to students.
Student Guidance and Counselling
- Provide individualized and small-group career counselling sessions for students.
- Assist students in exploring post-16 and post-18 opportunities, including higher education, work experiences, apprenticeships, and employment options.
- Prepare students for university interviews and conduct mock interviews with professionals from outside the school.
- Aid students in creating personal statements, CVs, and application essays.
Higher Education and Careers Programs
- Coordinate the use of platforms like Unifrog, UCAS, and the Common App.
- Present engaging talks on subjects such as personal statements, American college essays, student financing, and future employment trends.
- Oversee and develop the work experience programs for Year 10 and Year 12.
- Manage initiatives like Med Soc, Oxbridge Society, and other student-led academic organizations.
Event Management and Stakeholder Engagement
- Plan and manage events such as careers fairs, university tours, Higher Education Evenings, and GCSE Options Evenings.
- Collaborate with employers and professional organizations to broaden opportunities available to students.
- Work with other GEMS institutions to share resources and coordinate joint initiatives, such as Oxbridge Alumni Mock Interviews.
Data Management and Administration
- Keep precise student records, including exam results, progress data, references, and destination reports.
- Prepare and submit necessary documentation, including transcripts and application materials.
- Support students during A-Level/BTEC and GCSE results days, aiding them with Clearing and decision-making processes.
Collaboration and Professional Development
- Assist staff in writing references and personal statements through training and resource creation.
- Stay informed about labor market trends and incorporate this information into guidance materials.
- Engage actively in Parent-Teacher Consultations (Years 9–13) and other school events.
- Contribute to the broader school community by participating in extracurricular activities and promoting a culture of aspiration and excellence.
- Build strong relationships with students, parents, staff, and external partners.
- Uphold the school’s dedication to excellence and comprehensive student development.
- Perform any additional tasks as directed by the Assistant Principal or Leadership Team.
