About This Role

Key Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership
Collaborate closely with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team to foster and uphold exceptional standards in teaching and learning. Advocate for evidence-based practices, effective teaching methods, and impactful assessment strategies that lead to strong GCSE results. Evaluate the quality of teaching through lesson observations, work reviews, and data analysis, ensuring consistency, challenge, and progress for every learner.

Curriculum and Assessment
Direct the strategic planning, execution, and assessment of the curriculum. Ensure that curriculum plans are ambitious, well-sequenced, and in alignment with examination board standards. Supervise assessment frameworks, including internal moderation, intervention planning, and student progress tracking to achieve strong attainment and added value outcomes.

Raising Standards and Outcomes
Utilize performance data to pinpoint trends, gaps, and priorities. Design and implement focused intervention strategies for underperforming groups, including disadvantaged students and those with special educational needs. Hold middle leaders accountable for the standards within their departments while providing support to drive measurable improvements.

Staff Development and Professional Growth
Lead professional development initiatives specifically aimed at enhancing high-quality teaching, encompassing exam preparation, feedback, curriculum planning, and adaptive teaching. Mentor and coach middle leaders and classroom practitioners to enhance pedagogical practices and elevate student outcomes. Contribute to performance management processes with a strong emphasis on classroom impact.

Student Achievement and Academic Culture
Foster a culture of high expectations, academic ambition, and personal accountability. Ensure that effective systems are established to promote student progress, engagement, and well-being, particularly in examination years. Collaborate with pastoral leaders to eliminate barriers to learning and ensure positive post-school pathways for all students.

Quality Assurance and Accountability
Set up and maintain stringent quality assurance processes to assess teaching effectiveness, curriculum impact, and student progress. Provide regular reports to the Headteacher and Governors concerning standards, progress, and examination results. Ensure adherence to national standards and examination regulations.

Parental and Stakeholder Engagement
Cultivate robust partnerships with parents and caregivers, especially concerning pathways, options, and examination preparation. Clearly communicate progress, expectations, and support strategies to optimize student success.

School Leadership and Management
Contribute to the strategic leadership and daily management of the secondary phase. Support overarching school priorities, policies, and improvement planning, ensuring that curriculum provisions align with broader school development goals.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
