Scope of Responsibility

Every employee at GUIS contributes to maintaining a safe and developmentally appropriate environment in line with the GUIS program philosophy, school policies, and procedures. The role of the teacher at GUIS is crucial in delivering high-quality instruction and supporting the academic and personal development of students. Aligned with the school’s vision and values, the teacher is responsible for fostering a supportive, engaging, and inclusive educational environment that encourages student achievement, intellectual curiosity, and a love for learning.

Major Duties:

Safeguarding and Wellbeing:

  • Ensure the safety, wellbeing, and positive behavior of all stakeholders.
  • Follow GUIS's safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

In accordance with the teaching standards applicable to NCPA, teachers are expected to:

  • Create and deliver well-organized, engaging lessons.
  • Adapt teaching methods to suit the strengths and needs of each student.
  • Evaluate, monitor, and record students’ progress, using data-informed strategies to improve teaching and learning.
  • Develop a safe, inclusive, and dynamic learning environment that supports progress for all students.
  • Contribute to the creation and implementation of the school's curriculum and instructional plans.
  • Acknowledge the significance of enhancing literacy and oracy across all lessons.

Whole-School Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the development, implementation, and assessment of the school’s policies, practices, and procedures to uphold the school's vision and values, with a focus on students' Social and Emotional Wellbeing.
  • Engage in the wider life and ethos of the school, including extracurricular activities and school events.
  • Attend up to six marketing events throughout the academic year, as required.
  • Provide coverage for colleagues when requested.

Specific NCPA Duties:

  • Teachers are expected to fulfill an average of 22 contact hours weekly, which includes responsibilities such as classroom instruction, office hours, supervision, and advisory/homeroom duties. Specific responsibilities assigned by the Head of School/Division include:
    • Teaching load (80 minutes per lesson): Maximum of 5 blocks over two days.
    • Office Hour: Four hours per week.
    • Advisory: Two sessions of 30 minutes each per week.
  • Co-Curricular Activities (CCA): 30 hours per academic year (unpaid).
  • Marketing & Admissions days: Up to six unpaid days to assist with marketing events as needed.

Required Qualifications, Skills, Experience, and Attributes:

  • An internationally recognized teaching qualification.
  • Proficiency in the language of instruction.
  • Strong subject knowledge and curriculum expertise in relevant subject areas.
  • Ability to design and deliver engaging, well-structured lessons that cater to students’ needs.
  • Effective classroom management skills to ensure a positive, safe, and productive learning environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to facilitate collaboration with colleagues, parents, and other stakeholders.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and professional development.
