Key Responsibilities
• Inspire students in English learning from Year 7 to Year 13.
• Cultivate an appreciation for significant English cultural features and traditions among students.
• Ensure that all lessons are meticulously planned, evaluated, and allow for effective differentiation.
• Assess, mark, record, and report on students' progress and achievements.
• Adhere to departmental and school-wide expectations and policies in all teaching, marking, and assessment.
• Prepare and motivate students for success in national events.
• Showcase students’ work through displays around the department and school, as well as through student performances.
• Occasionally lead whole-school assemblies.
• Maintain comprehensive records for the department, including tracking individual student progress in the subject.
• Encourage the integration of ICT in English instruction.
• Complete all duties and follow procedures as outlined in the staff handbook.
• Be prepared to represent the school by engaging with prospective parents visiting the classroom and acting as an ambassador for the institution.
• Collaborate closely with the Head, the SENCO, and other staff regarding any students of concern.
• Manage the behavior and discipline of students in alignment with the school’s behavior policy.
• Keep relevant pages updated on online platforms.
• Contribute to school newsletters at least once per term.
• Attend staff and curriculum meetings, including occasional whole school gatherings.
• Engage in the appraisal process.
• Serve as a positive role model in terms of speech, attire, behavior, and care of equipment.
• Act as a form/house tutor.
Additional Responsibilities
• Actively participate in the broader life of the school.
• Support the school’s marketing and admissions initiatives, including Open Mornings, events for prospective parents, and assessment days.
• Collaborate with other departments to enhance opportunities for cross-curricular connections.
• Attend Parents’ evenings when required and write reports.
• Take an active role in leading after-school clubs and activities.
Qualifications and Experience
• Candidates should have experience preparing students for GCSE/IGCSE.
• Experience teaching IBDP is a plus.
• A PGCE/PGDE or equivalent qualification is essential.
