Teacher of English Language and Literature to IGCSE and A-level
About This Role
Elevate Academic Excellence: Teacher of English (IGCSE & A-Level)
British West Indies Collegiate (BWIC) is on the lookout for a dynamic, knowledgeable, and adaptable educator to enhance our English Department. This is a remarkable opportunity to influence literacy, foster critical thinking, and amplify the global perspectives of the leading independent school in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Committed to the development of the "whole student," we seek an educator who can instill a passion for literature and language mastery while actively participating in the diverse academic community at our Collegiate.
The Role
•
Curriculum Excellence: Provide engaging and effective English Language and Literature instruction throughout Key Stage 3 and the Cambridge (CAIE) IGCSE curriculum.
•
A-Level Specialism: Motivate and guide our Sixth Form students as they navigate the challenges of the two-year British A-Level program, equipping them for their future studies at prestigious global universities.
•
Interdisciplinary Contribution: At BWIC, we appreciate versatility. The ability or eagerness to offer teaching support in other subjects—such as Drama, Psychology, or History—would be a considerable asset and promote a dynamic and diverse timetable.
•
Extra-Curricular Impact: Outside the classroom, you will be expected to engage in a lively array of activities, including the Debate Club, School Magazine, Creative Writing workshops, the Yearbook, or National Speech competitions.
•
Community Engagement: Play a role in fostering the "extended family" feel at BWIC, participating in school-wide events and supporting the personal growth of our 195 students.
The Ideal Candidate
•
Qualified Educator: Possesses a recognized teaching qualification (PGCE or equivalent) along with a degree in English Literature, Language, or a closely related area.
•
Versatile Academic: While English is the primary focus, we encourage applicants with the capacity to teach across various disciplines (e.g., Humanities or Performing Arts).
•
A-Level Experience: Demonstrated experience in teaching English at A-Level is highly sought after, with a proven record of guiding students to achieve exceptional examination results.
•
CAIE Experience: Knowledge of the Cambridge International (IGCSE & A-Level) framework is advantageous but not mandatory; we value a dedication to high standards and professional adaptability.
Why Join BWIC?
•
Modern Facilities: Educate in a setting equipped with dedicated IT labs, a specialized Sixth Form Centre, and a culture that appreciates both academic excellence and creative and athletic achievement.
•
Small Class Sizes: Experience the benefits of small, focused groups—especially at A-Level—that facilitate in-depth seminar-style discussions and meaningful mentorship.
•
A Lifestyle Unmatched: Reside and work on "Provo," where your professional life is complemented by stunning beaches and a supportive, international faculty community.
