About This Role
GEMS American Academy in Qatar is seeking a dedicated and skilled professional to become a part of our SENCO team.
The selected candidate will start in August 2026.
Key Responsibilities include:
•
Uphold and promote the ethos and standards of excellence outlined in the GEMS Core Values.
•
Effectively deliver the designated curriculum, showcasing a thorough and current understanding of the subject matter.
•
Develop and present engaging lessons that inspire students. Design and utilize suitable materials and classroom settings to accommodate various learning preferences.
•
Provide written documentation of lesson planning and preparation upon request. Maintain comprehensive records of curriculum and year plans, attendance, teaching resources, assessment strategies, etc.
•
Adhere to GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct at all times.
•
Instruct assigned students according to their unique needs, employing suitable teaching methods that align with their requirements and abilities, including late-entry students, ESL learners, those with lower academic capabilities, and gifted students.
•
Assign and evaluate student work. Assess, document, and report on students' academic growth, progress, and achievements, using these evaluations to tailor the curriculum to individual student needs.
•
Demonstrate proficiency in employing media and technology within the classroom.
•
Support the overall progress and well-being of students while providing educational guidance.
•
Communicate with external parties when necessary (e.g., Ministry of Education officials).
•
Engage in appraisal processes and Performance Management, along with Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
•
Collaborate with colleagues in creating and enhancing teaching materials, resources, courses, and pastoral care arrangements.
•
Participate in, and lead when appropriate, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities at the school. Foster positive working relationships through active leadership and the sharing of ideas, resources, and experiences.
•
Oversee and ensure safe and appropriate student behavior. Develop and implement strategies to promote self-discipline and address disruptive behavior.
•
Exemplify and promote cultural awareness and understanding while fostering a passion for learning.
•
Assist in the organization and planning of school events and functions (e.g., inter-house competitions, concerts, school plays, prize days, etc.).
•
Regularly communicate with parents, advocating for the GEMS philosophy and core values; keep parents informed about their children's progress while maintaining confidentiality regarding student-related information.
•
Demonstrate initiative and commitment, going beyond typical work hours as necessary to fulfill responsibilities.
•
Attend staff meetings and participate in committees as needed.
•
Carry out additional tasks as requested by direct and indirect supervisors.
Ideal candidates will need to:
•

Possess a B.Ed or a Bachelor's degree in EAL/ELL or Special Needs Education, along with a PGCE/PGDE or an equivalent Level 5 teaching qualification.
•
Have knowledge of ICT applications in educational settings to enhance teaching and learning.
•
Be a committed educator with strong subject knowledge in relevant areas and a solid dedication to teaching and learning.
•
Exhibit excellent communication skills with the ability to build relationships with students and colleagues, contributing to the broader school community.
•
Have a minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in the relevant subject area or age group.
