About This Role
GEMS American Academy in Qatar is seeking a dedicated and skilled Lower Elementary Teacher (KG-GR2) to become part of our Elementary Education team.
The anticipated start date for this position is August 2026.
Key Responsibilities include:
•
Uphold and foster the ethos and standards of excellence as outlined in the GEMS Core Values.
•
Implement the prescribed curriculum, demonstrating comprehensive and current knowledge of the subject matter.
•
Design and deliver engaging lessons that inspire students. Develop and utilize suitable materials and create a classroom environment that accommodates various learning styles.
•
Provide written evidence of lesson planning and preparation upon request. Maintain thorough records of curriculum plans, attendance, teaching resources, assessment strategies, and more.
•
Adhere to GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct consistently.
•
Instruct assigned students according to their unique needs, employing suitable teaching methods that address diverse abilities, including late-entering students, ESL learners, and those with varying academic capabilities.
•
Assign and evaluate work. Assess, document, and communicate students' academic growth, progress, and achievements, employing assessment to tailor the curriculum to individual student needs.
•
Demonstrate proficiency in using media and technology effectively in the classroom.
•
Support the overall progress and well-being of students, offering guidance on educational matters.
•
Engage with external parties when necessary (e.g., Ministry of Education representatives).
•
Take part in appraisal and Performance Management processes, as well as Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities.
•
Collaborate with colleagues in preparing and developing teaching materials, resources, courses of study, and pastoral support.
•
Engage in, and lead when appropriate, co-curricular and extra-curricular programs within the school, fostering positive working relationships through effective leadership and sharing of ideas, materials, and experiences.
•
Supervise and regulate safe and appropriate student behavior. Develop and implement strategies to promote self-discipline and address disruptive behavior.
•
Demonstrate and encourage cultural awareness and understanding, instilling a passion for learning.
•
Assist in the planning and organization of school events and activities (e.g., inter-house competitions, concerts, school plays, award ceremonies, etc.).
•
Regularly communicate with parents, promoting the GEMS philosophy and core values; keep them informed about their children’s progress while respecting student confidentiality.
•
Exhibit initiative and dedication beyond standard working hours when tasks require extra commitment.
•
Attend staff meetings and participate in committees as necessary.
•
Carry out other duties as assigned by direct and dotted line managers/supervisors.
Successful candidates must:
•
Exemplify and model the core values of respect, innovation, leadership, purpose, and tenacity.
•
Possess a B.Ed or Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Elementary Education) along with a PGCE/PGDE or equivalent Level 5 teaching qualification.
•
Demonstrate knowledge of ICT use in schools to enhance teaching and learning.
•
Be a committed educator with strong subject knowledge in the relevant area and a solid dedication to teaching and learning.
•
Exhibit excellent communication skills, capable of building strong relationships with students and colleagues, and contributing to the broader school community.
•
Have a minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in the relevant subject area or age group.
