Position Overview: We are seeking a passionate and committed Educator to join our team. The selected individual will play a crucial role in developing and implementing educational programs that reflect diversity, promote equity, and honor the vibrant cultural legacy of our community. This position requires a firm commitment to indigenization, a focus on competency in the curriculum, and an innovative approach to land-based education.
Responsibilities:
Course Development: Collaborate with fellow educators, Elders, and community stakeholders to design and execute a competency-based curriculum anchored in Indigenous knowledge and values.
Cultural Inclusion: Foster an educational setting that recognizes and incorporates diverse Indigenous perspectives, ensuring that the curriculum reflects the local Indigenous culture.
Equity and Inclusion: Formulate and implement strategies aimed at enhancing equity and inclusion within the school environment, addressing disparities, and cultivating a sense of belonging among all students.
Community Engagement: Act as a liaison between the school and the community, actively soliciting input, collaboration, and feedback to continually improve educational offerings.
Land-Based Education: Develop and integrate land-based learning activities into the curriculum, encouraging a deep connection to the land and traditional practices.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Education
Eligibility for a Northwest Territories teaching certificate
The following criteria will be critical considerations during the hiring process:
A solid understanding of Indigenous cultures, history, and traditions.
Experience with inquiry-based instructional methods.
Experience in curriculum development, with a focus on competency-based education.
Experience in competency-based assessment and evaluation.
A proven commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Knowledge of Inclusive Schooling practices in the Northwest Territories.
Familiarity with principles and practices of land-based education.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
