About This Role
GEMS Wellington Academy – Al Khail is looking to recruit an exceptional Head of Business and Economics starting in August 2026. The ideal candidate will lead a dynamic department, ensuring outstanding teaching, strong academic results, and a curriculum that equips students for their future endeavors.
Job Purpose: The Head of Business and Economics will provide both strategic and operational leadership for the department across Key Stages 4 and 5. This position emphasizes the delivery of a top-tier curriculum, staff development, and ensuring that every student reaches their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct curriculum planning, implementation, and evaluation for Business, Economics, and vocational courses.
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality teaching and maintain consistent standards throughout the department.
- Monitor and assess student progress, applying targeted interventions as necessary.
- Oversee assessment procedures, including BTEC verification and exam readiness.
- Lead, support, and develop teaching staff through coaching and performance management.
- Foster a collaborative team environment with high expectations for both staff and students.
- Engage with parents through reporting and participation in school events.
- Establish connections with universities, industry, and external partners.
- Contribute to the school's self-evaluation, readiness for inspections, and improvement planning.
- Support overarching school priorities, including literacy, inclusion, and digital learning.
- Encourage enrichment opportunities and assist in guiding student career pathways.
Skills:
- Demonstrated leadership experience in a secondary school environment.
- Strong knowledge base in Business and/or Economics.
- Comprehensive understanding of the British curriculum and assessment frameworks.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Ability to motivate and cultivate both students and staff.
- Recognized teaching qualification (PGCE or equivalent).
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; additional qualifications are preferred.
