Situated in the charming hamlet of Igloolik, Nunavut, Ataguttaaluk Elementary School serves its local community. The school accommodates approximately 395 students in a K-6 setting, supported by a staff of 40. Both the school and the community are immersed in a rich Inuit cultural heritage.

Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
- Valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligible for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers lacking a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials assessed through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications
Candidates are not required to fulfill every qualification; relevant experience and a dedication to community-centered education are highly regarded.
Language and Cultural Assets
- Proficiency in Inuktitut (both verbal and written)
- Experience with Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit-based education
- Experience teaching in bilingual or ESL settings
- Background in cross-cultural or northern-Canada teaching contexts

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction and inclusive practices
- Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development
- Familiarity with current assessment methods to inform learning
- Ability to foster a positive learning environment through effective classroom management strategies (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

Relationships & Student Engagement
- Experience in establishing respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community stakeholders
- Proven ability to promote student wellbeing and engagement
- Experience engaging with students outside the classroom as needed

Collaboration & Professional Practice
- Experience in collaboratively planning instruction and student support
- Ability to work as part of a school team in a collaborative manner
- Experience contributing to a shared, community-focused environment

Compensation and Benefits
- Salary Range: $93,906 - $147,243 (dependent on experience)
- Nunavut Northern Allowance for Igloolik, Nunavut: $22,579
- Subsidized Housing: NOT available

Conditions of Employment
- Current employees of the Government of Nunavut must possess a valid Nunavut teaching certificate.
- Candidates from outside Nunavut must provide a copy of a current public-school teaching certificate from a Canadian jurisdiction accepted by the Nunavut Department of Education. Applications without this documentation will not be evaluated.
