Ataguttaaluk Elementary School, situated in the scenic hamlet of Igloolik, Nunavut, serves the local community and caters to approximately 395 students from K-6, supported by a staff of 40. The school and its community are rich with Inuit cultural heritage.

Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
- A valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligibility for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers lacking a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials evaluated through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications
Candidates need not fulfill every requirement; relevant experience coupled with a commitment to community-oriented education is highly valued.
Language and Cultural Assets
- Proficiency in communicating in Inuktitut (both verbal and written)
- Experience in delivering Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit-based education
- Experience in bilingual or ESL teaching environments
- Experience teaching in cross-cultural or Northern Canada contexts

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment
- Familiarity with differentiated instruction and inclusive practices
- Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development
- Training or experience utilizing current assessment methods to inform learning
- Experience in establishing a positive learning environment through effective classroom management practices (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

Relationships & Student Engagement
- Proven track record of building respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community stakeholders
- Experience in enhancing student wellbeing and engagement
- Experience in engaging with students outside the classroom, when appropriate

Collaboration & Professional Practice
- Experience in collaboratively planning instruction and student supports
- Experience working as a collaborative member of a school team
- Experience contributing to a shared, community-oriented environment

Compensation and benefits
- Salary Range: $93,906 - $147,243 (commensurate with experience)
- Nunavut Northern Allowance for Igloolik, Nunavut: $22,579
- Subsidized Housing: NOT available

Conditions of Employment
- Current employees of the Government of Nunavut must possess a valid Nunavut teaching certificate.
- Applicants from outside Nunavut must submit a copy of a current public-school teaching certificate from a Canadian jurisdiction recognized by the Nunavut Department of Education. Applications lacking this documentation will not be considered.
