About This Role

Reading Girls’ School is a dynamic and welcoming community, serving the educational needs of girls from the ages of 11 to 16 from a diverse local community. We are seeking an exceptional leader to join our Senior Leadership Team as Assistant Principal for Inclusion and SENDCo.

This is a pivotal role for a passionate, strategic, and values‑driven professional who believes that every young person—without exception—deserves access to high‑quality teaching, ambitious opportunities, and a school culture where they feel seen, supported, and able to thrive.

As Assistant Principal for Inclusion, you will be the driving force behind our commitment to ensuring that all students, including those with SEND, experience outstanding provision. You will lead with clarity, compassion, and high expectations, shaping whole‑school practice and influencing teaching and learning at every level.

You will:

  • Provide strategic leadership of SEND across the school, fulfilling the statutory role of SENDCo.

  • Lead and inspire staff to deliver consistently high‑quality, inclusive teaching.

  • Work as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team to secure excellent outcomes for all learners.

  • Champion an ethos where inclusion is not an add‑on, but a thread running through every classroom, every decision, and every interaction.

  • Use data, research, and professional insight to drive improvement and remove barriers to learning.

  • Build strong partnerships with families, external agencies, and the wider community.

You are someone who brings both expertise and heart to the role. You will:

  • Be an experienced SENDCo (or working towards the qualification) with a deep understanding of inclusive practice.

  • Demonstrate proven leadership skills and the ability to influence whole‑school improvement.

  • Have a track record of raising achievement and improving outcomes for students with diverse needs.

  • Be an excellent communicator who can motivate, challenge, and support colleagues at all levels.

  • Believe passionately in equity, aspiration, and the transformative power of education.

This is an opportunity to shape the future of inclusion in a vibrant, forward‑thinking secondary school. You will be part of a collaborative leadership team that values innovation, professional growth, and the relentless pursuit of excellence for every student.

If you are ready to lead with purpose, champion inclusion, and make a lasting difference, we would love to hear from you.
