Comprehensive High School Counsellor
About This Role
Key Responsibilities
Reports directly to the Head of High School and the Head of High School Counselling.
Collaborates effectively with colleagues in the High School Counselling team on all program-related matters.
Manages a caseload of roughly a quarter of the students within the three-year High School, focusing on their academic achievements and post-secondary applications.
Facilitates meetings during the course selection process and guides student pathways throughout their time in High School at ISB, which includes academic planning, progress monitoring, goal-setting, personal and social well-being, and overall balance.
Engages with other counsellors across ISB’s three divisions.
Contributes to the development and delivery of College and Career presentations, information sessions, and related events.
Works alongside the High School Leadership Team to track student progress.
Partners with IB Coordinators, the Head of High School, and fellow counsellors to manage final results and assist students in navigating the process of receiving their results and securing university placements, including some summer engagement.
Collaborates with parents to foster student success at ISB and to address post-secondary ambitions and expectations.
Facilitates the transition of students from Admissions and from Middle School as they progress through high school and into their post-secondary paths.
Supports the broader objectives of School Counselling as directed by the Head of High School.
Engages with global universities and post-secondary institutions to understand their admissions processes and to enhance the profile of ISB.
General Counseling:
Acts as the primary contact for parents and teachers seeking to support students.
Provides a caring and compassionate pastoral approach to all students.
Guides students requiring long-term support to the High School Social Emotional Counsellor or School Psychologist.
Academic Counseling:
Participates in the Student Study Team, attending weekly meetings and following up on action items.
Conducts group and individual course scheduling meetings for assigned students.
Creates individual schedules and processes course change requests, coordinating with students, parents, and colleagues as necessary.
Serves as an academic case manager, creating suitable pathways for students, developing schedules, monitoring academic progress, and liaising with parents. Familiarity with PowerSchool is preferred.
Collaborates with the Learning Support Department, Intensive Learning Support Department, English Language Development, and Social Emotional Counselling, and participates in ILP Meetings to assist students.
College and Careers Counseling:
Possesses a thorough understanding of the key features and application procedures for university systems in the UK, the United States, Western Europe, and Canada.
Knows how to manage post-secondary student applications.
Exhibits a willingness to learn about additional application systems as necessary.
Is familiar with university application management software and other relevant counselling tools.
Conducts data analysis related to academic and college counselling as required.
Hosts on-campus and virtual visits with university admission representatives.
Organizes information evenings for parents and students or related programming.
Establishes professional networks within the international counselling community.
Builds professional relationships within the global Higher Education community.
