About This Role

Brighton College Vietnam is seeking to hire a Director of Performing Arts to begin in August 2026.

ROLE SPECIFICATION

The Performing Arts are a vital part of the student experience at Brighton College Vietnam.

The Director of Performing Arts will lead the development and implementation of the comprehensive Performing Arts curriculum for the entire college, which includes both Drama and Music for the Prep and Senior Schools. This role also manages all co-curricular performing arts activities and oversees productions for both the Prep and Senior Schools.

Each year, our students showcase their talents in a diverse range of musical and theatrical performances, from informal concerts to grand-scale shows and engaging artistic exhibitions. Our dynamic theatre facility boasts a 500-seat auditorium as well as dedicated Dance and Drama studios, creating an inspiring atmosphere that nurtures creativity and builds confidence. Through these opportunities, students are motivated to express themselves, collaborate with respect, and enjoy the thrill of artistic exploration.

A significant focus of this position is to enhance student engagement in the Performing Arts, while also fostering a vibrant faculty that contributes meaningfully to the broader College community.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Performing Arts faculty consists of both Drama and Music teams. The Drama team includes a Prep Drama Specialist Teacher, a Drama Technician, and a Performing Arts Teaching Assistant. The Music team includes a Head of Music, a Music Teacher, and a Music Technician.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership and Department Development


Foster a positive team environment.


Provide line management and support to the Head of Music, Prep Drama Specialist Teacher (with close collaboration with the Prep Deputy Head (Academic)), and Technicians.


Encourage and exemplify high standards of teaching and learning.


Lead curriculum design across all Performing Arts subjects, ensuring it is ambitious, inclusive, and of high quality.


Guide the future development of the department within the College.


Implement creative initiatives and collaborative projects to ensure a dynamic and inspiring curriculum that allows students to explore the subject and grow within the department.


Be responsible for the Departmental Development Plan and contribute to the College’s Self Evaluation and Development Plan.


Stay informed about the latest educational practices, philosophies, and developments within the subject area.


Maintain close relationships and regular communication with professional bodies relevant to the department.


Set a strong example in all aspects of school life, serving as a powerful role model for colleagues as an exemplary practitioner.

Teaching and Learning


Supervise the teaching and learning of Performing Arts throughout the College.


Ensure all department members inspire each student to achieve their academic potential through enthusiastic and personalized teaching, tailored challenges, and diligent record-keeping.


Encourage each student to reach their academic potential through motivated and personalized teaching, structured challenges, and thorough tracking of progress.


Monitor and track all students' progress within the department.


Collaborate with the Deputy Head on matters related to monitoring student progress in Performing Arts.


Oversee examinations and assessments within the Department.


Prepare, invigilate, and assess internal and external tests and examinations as necessary.


Ensure that Schemes of Work are established and current.


Develop and share Schemes of Work and resources using internal formats.


Review and proofread reports.


Comply with all College policies, including those regarding marking, assessment, teaching, learning, and reporting.


Assist with covering for colleagues as needed.

Administration and Operations


Oversee the annual update of all departmental policies, handbooks, and documentation, including staffing, curriculum plans, Schemes of Work, timetables, job descriptions, budgets, INSET, assessments, meetings, and risk assessments.


Collaborate with your department team on issues related to setting and individual student needs.


Manage the Department budget and oversee the ordering of all equipment.


Attend all required meetings and INSET, actively participating in Heads of Department meetings and organizing regular Departmental meetings.

Pastoral


Stay informed about and adhere to all policies related to child safeguarding.


Work within a house structure as a Tutor for a designated year group.


Take an active interest in each student’s personal and domestic situation to support their social and personal development.


Promote the social, moral, and cultural ethos of the College community.


Encourage pride in the College among students through high standards of dress, behavior, and commitment.


Foster a supportive atmosphere by being aware of and compliant with all College Policies.


Be knowledgeable about all College health and safety policies and actively ensure the safety of all community members.


Promote exemplary behavior and a responsible attitude among students at all times.


Follow and act upon all policies regarding child safeguarding.

Professional Responsibilities


Encourage pride in the College among the student body by maintaining high standards of dress, behavior, and commitment.


Ensure that all communications are addressed appropriately and promptly.


Attend parents’ evenings, assemblies, performances, sporting events, and other significant school occasions as required by the Head of College.


Take responsibility for all College resources, especially those in your care, reporting any damage or loss to the appropriate authority.


Contribute to the virtual learning environment, website, social media, and publications related to your work.


Develop a close partnership with parents, reaching out when necessary and keeping a record of communications.


Fulfill any reasonable professional requests from the Head of College or members of the Senior Leadership Team and actively support the Co-Curricular Programme.

Promotion, Profile and Cultural Contribution


Oversee the department’s contributions to the College website and social media, ensuring the achievements and activities of the Performing Arts faculty are prominently showcased.


Represent the Performing Arts faculty as an ambassador for the College at various internal and external events, enhancing the department's profile and visibility.


Manage a lively schedule of performances, concerts, exhibitions, showcases, and arts events that engage students, staff, and the wider community.


Cultivate a diverse array of co-curricular opportunities, including clubs, ensembles, productions, and educational trips.
