About This Role
Purpose of Job
• Collaborate with students, staff, governors, HIMS personnel, and parents to set, assess, and enhance the academic objectives and standards of the Upper School.
• Assume leadership and management responsibilities for the Upper School.
• Support the Head Master/Mistress in fostering a dynamic and flourishing school environment.
• Oversee the performance of the Upper School teaching faculty.
• Ensure the delivery of quality educational programs within a secure, encouraging, and healthy learning atmosphere.
• Regularly assess and monitor all facets of the Upper School team, addressing any emerging issues to guarantee that students receive the support they need in their educational journey.
• Exemplify and advocate for exemplary teaching and learning practices that align with the school’s philosophy and vision.
Education:
• A relevant degree, along with a UK PGCE or another teaching qualification that provides QTS.
• Proven record of engaging in relevant and challenging continuing professional development.
• An advanced degree in Education, NPQH, or an equivalent qualification (preferred).
Qualifications:
• Familiarity with the National Curriculum of England, including KS3, IGCSE/GCSE, and A Levels as applicable.
• Passing personal and professional background checks, allowing for unsupervised access to children (verified through an International Child Protection Certificate background check and/or appropriate police checks from relevant countries of current and prior residence/work).
Knowledge and experience:
• Minimum of 4 years in a senior leadership role.
• Experience in teaching students with diverse needs, particularly EAL, within the Upper School.
• Proven experience in managing staff performance, especially for senior or middle management levels.
• Demonstrated ability in effective relationship management with various stakeholders.
• Experience or a solid understanding of Upper School leadership in an international school context.
• Familiarity with international accreditation, inspection, and evaluation standards.
• Knowledge of positive behavior management strategies for students, along with evidence of effective practices across different settings.
