Knowledge and Understanding:
- Possess in-depth knowledge of English as outlined in the National Curriculum, A level, IGCSE, IBDP.
- Exhibit a solid understanding of the English subject matter.
- Capably address subject-related inquiries from students and be aware of common misconceptions and errors in their areas of expertise.
- Familiarity with all secondary school curriculum and assessment standards.
Planning and Setting Expectations:
- Establish clear teaching objectives, content, lesson frameworks, and sequences tailored to the subject matter and the students taught.
- Set high and challenging expectations for student learning and motivation. Define clear learning targets based on prior achievements and experiences.
- Recognize students with special educational needs and those who are gifted and talented, and know how to seek assistance for providing positive and targeted support. If applicable, manage and document Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
Teaching and Managing Student Learning:
- Deliver effective instruction for whole classes, small groups, and individual students to meet teaching objectives, maintain momentum and challenge, and optimize teaching time.
- Employ teaching strategies that engage students, fostering intellectual curiosity through effective questioning, clear presentations, and appropriate resource utilization.
- Maintain high standards for student behavior, fostering a positive classroom environment through focused teaching and constructive relationships.
Assessment and Evaluation:
- Evaluate the extent to which learning objectives have been accomplished and utilize this assessment to inform future teaching practices.
- Grade and oversee students’ classwork and homework, providing constructive feedback both orally and in writing, while setting targets for student improvement.
- When applicable, comprehend the expectations set for students regarding the National Curriculum, A level, IGCSE, IBDP, KS4, and KS5.
Relations with Parents and the Wider Community:
- Prepare and deliver informative reports to parents.
- Acknowledge that learning extends beyond the school environment and create opportunities for students to relate their studies to real-world and work-related scenarios.
- Recognize the importance of collaborating with external agencies.
Managing Own Performance and Development:
- Acknowledge the necessity of taking responsibility for personal professional development and staying informed of trends and advancements in pedagogy and relevant subjects.
- Understand professional responsibilities concerning school policies, guidelines, and practices.
- Set a strong example for students through professional presentation and conduct.
- Critically assess personal teaching effectiveness and use insights for improvement.
Managing and Developing Staff and Other Adults:
- Build effective working relationships with colleagues, including co-teachers, specialist instructors, and support staff.
Managing Resources:
- Select and utilize books, equipment, ICT, and other educational resources effectively to achieve teaching objectives.
- Most staff members will also serve as Form Tutors during their tenure at YCIS or YWIES.
Qualification & Requirements:
- B.Ed. or a bachelor's degree in a related field, along with a teaching certificate (PGCE & QTS & Country or State teaching licensure, etc.).
- Native English speaker; instruction will be conducted in English.
- A minimum of 2 years of full-time relevant teaching experience.
- Experience working with a diverse group of young learners and/or familiarity with inquiry-based learning approaches is advantageous.
- Preference will be given to candidates with A level, IBDP, or IGCSE experience.
