About This Role

Sturgeon Lake School is seeking a committed Special Education teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. The ideal candidate will recognize the importance of differentiated instruction and will be skilled in adjusting their teaching strategies to meet the varied needs of their students. They will appreciate the significance of fostering strong relationships and will have the ability to connect with staff, students, and the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation community.

To be considered for this role, applicants must possess specialized training in Special Needs Education and be ready to support children from Kindergarten through 12th grade. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Assessing students’ abilities to identify their needs and developing instructional plans for those in moderate to severe educational programs at Sturgeon Lake School.
- Assisting certified staff in modifying lessons to accommodate the specific requirements of students in their classrooms.
- Supporting certified staff in the creation of Individualized Program Plans (IPPs) for each student identified as having special needs and overseeing the implementation of the outlined goals in the IPP.
- Planning, organizing, and assigning activities tailored to each student’s abilities as specified in their IPP.
- Instructing and guiding students in various formats, including whole class, small groups, and one-on-one sessions as required by the moderate-severe classes.
- Implementing IPPs, evaluating students’ performance, and tracking their progress while maintaining and monitoring the SPED report.
- Updating IPPs throughout the academic year to accurately reflect student progress and goals.
- Engaging in conversations regarding students’ progress with parents, teachers, and the Principal.
- Supervising and mentoring educational assistants and certified staff working with students who have significant learning disabilities.
- Preparing and supporting students as they transition from one grade to the next.
