About This Role

Hillmorton High School is a diverse urban coeducational school situated in the South-West of Christchurch. The school is a fast-growing Y7–13 school with dedicated middle and senior schools. We have a roll of around 1,400 and with further building works underway. The roll is expected to increase in the next few years.


We provide students with a caring and supportive environment, to help them achieve academic excellence, leadership skills and a love of learning.


We are seeking an enthusiastic, innovative and effective classroom practitioner to join the Social Sciences department.


A reflective and student-focused teacher, the successful applicant will have strong curriculum knowledge and an ability to teach senior Geography.


An ability to build positive relationships with students, staff and whānau is essential.


A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the understanding and ability to teach using culturally responsive and relational pedagogy is essential.


The successful applicant must be a NZ registered teacher and be willing to commit to our co-curricular programme also.


The Role


Full time, Fixed term, Start Date: 20/04/2026, End Date: 11/12/2026 (Staff member on extended leave)


Key Responsibilities



  • Teach social sciences to secondary students (Years 7–15).

  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans.

  • Assess and report on student progress.

  • Participate in school activities and co-curricular programmes.


Qualifications



  • Must be a NZ registered teacher.

  • Strong curriculum knowledge in social sciences.

  • Experience teaching senior Geography is preferred.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
