Situated in the southern region of Ras Al Khaimah within the Al Hamra community, RAK Academy – Al Hamra is an expanding primary and lower secondary institution that offers a tailored UK National Curriculum from Pre-K to Grade 8 alongside UAE MOE subjects. The new secondary school, covering Grades 6 to 8, will open its doors for the first time in August 2026. We hold accreditation from the British Schools Overseas (BSO), aligning with leading international British schools and are equipped to fully deliver the ECT induction to teachers.
The Role (Founding position):
RAK Academy – Al Hamra is on the lookout for an enthusiastic, motivated, and inspirational Secondary Head of Mathematics to spearhead the creation of our new secondary Mathematics department. This founding role presents a unique opportunity to influence curriculum development, shape departmental culture, establish numeracy pathways, and set teaching standards in a school debuting in August 2026.
As a pioneering middle leader, the Secondary Head of Mathematics will:
- Oversee the design and execution of the Mathematics curriculum for Grades 6–8
- Develop assessment frameworks, departmental policies, and expectations for high-quality teaching
- Foster a robust culture of problem-solving, numeracy, and mathematical reasoning throughout the school
- Assist in the recruitment, onboarding, and professional growth of Mathematics teachers
- Collaborate closely with the Head of School, Deputy Head, and primary maths leaders to ensure seamless continuity and progression
- Manage curriculum planning, resource allocation, and professional development requirements
- Teach across various key stages as the school expands

Essential:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or a related field.
- Post Graduate Certificate in Education (or equivalent)
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Strong understanding of teaching and learning methodologies
- High proficiency in technology to enhance teaching and learning
- Ability to engage, motivate, and support students
- Reflective practitioner capable of creative thinking and innovation
- Positive and enthusiastic team member with a growth mindset
- Willingness to actively participate in extracurricular activities
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience in teaching GCSE/IGCSE/A-Level courses (Early Career Teachers are encouraged to apply)
Desirable:
- National Professional Qualification Middle Leadership (NPQML).
- National Professional Qualification Leading Teaching (NPQLT)
- Proven track record of improving student outcomes.
- Experience in contributing to or leading curriculum development
