About This Role

Swiss International School in Qatar is seeking a remarkable and forward-thinking Secondary Geography Teacher (MYP/DP) for the Academic Year 2025-2026. This is a fantastic opportunity to become part of a passionate team that is enhancing the Humanities Department at SISQ.

Please note: Depending on the candidate’s qualifications, this role may also include additional responsibilities as an Individuals & Societies Subject Lead.

Key Responsibilities:
• All personnel at SISQ are required to adhere to the Student Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy.
• Foster effective teaching and learning while managing resources and serving as a professional role model within the Humanities Department.

General Duties: As a Secondary Geography Teacher (MYP/DP), you will be expected to:

Manage Learning:
• Demonstrate a commitment to student learning and safeguarding.
• Exhibit a strong dedication to the educational journeys of your students.
• Show comprehensive knowledge of the subjects you teach and the methods of content delivery.
• Implement differentiation strategies within the classroom.
• Encourage inquiry-based learning and concept-driven instruction.
• Use various assessments to accurately reflect student learning outcomes.
• Oversee and manage each student’s academic progress.
• Keep precise records of students' work and ensure timely communication through peer reviews.
• Provide progress updates to parents through formal and informal meetings, anecdotal records, incident reports, reflections, feedback, and conferences.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of both students and resources under your care.

Professional Management of Self, Planning, and Reflection:
• Collaborate with all SISQ staff, demonstrating your ability to engage in joint planning and reflection, and participate in Secondary School/Whole School meetings and events.
• Ensure thorough planning and implementation of the IB programs of study, adhering to Scope and Sequence, Areas of Inquiry, and target-setting in line with IBO standards to promote learning progression.
• Prepare weekly lesson plans and develop long-term schemes of work for the academic year.
• Consistently uphold SISQ policies.
• Maintain a positive attitude in interactions with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Address parent inquiries or concerns in a timely manner, escalating when necessary.

Professional Development:
• Share your subject knowledge and effective classroom practices with colleagues.
• Seek personal development opportunities both within and outside of SISQ to enhance your teaching skills and knowledge.

Resources:
• Create a dynamic and engaging classroom environment with displays that showcase student learning.
• Develop additional resources to enhance classroom instruction and support differentiated learning.

Pastoral Care:
• Supervise students during drop-off, after-school childcare, and all break times.
• Celebrate student achievements.
• Promote the IB Attitudes and Profile.
• Address the physical, mental, and emotional needs of students within the school environment.
• Communicate with parents via email, ManageBac, and weekly newsletters as appropriate.

Whole School:
• Actively participate in all school meetings, events, and professional development days.
• Encourage parental involvement in the school through events and conferences.
• Contribute to and foster a positive school atmosphere.

About You: The ideal candidate will possess the following essential qualities:
• A degree in Geography.
• A strong student-centered focus and a passion for working with middle school learners.
• A collaborative approach to teamwork.
• A commitment to continuous improvement.
• A dedication to student learning, well-being, and safeguarding.

The following attributes will be considered beneficial:
• Experience teaching IB Diploma, A-Level, or Advanced Placement Geography.
• Background in an international school environment.

In accordance with the Ministry of Education's Circular 13 requirements, candidates must possess:
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Geography or a Bachelor’s in Geography and Urban Planning.
• A teaching qualification (PGCE / QTS / Teaching License).
• Be no older than 49 years of age as of August 2025 upon joining the school.

Compensation
