About This Role
Duties:
A. Knowledge and Understanding:
• Have a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter.
• Ensure a strong command of the subject area.
• Address subject-related questions from students effectively, while being aware of common misconceptions and errors within their specialized discipline(s).
• Be familiar with the curriculum and assessment standards of the school.
B. Planning and Setting Expectations:
• Establish clear teaching goals, content, lesson formats, and sequences tailored to both the subject and the needs of students.
• Set high expectations for student learning and motivation, creating specific objectives that build on previous achievements and experiences.
• Recognize students with special educational needs, as well as those who are gifted and talented, and know how to access support for providing targeted assistance. Where applicable, implement and maintain records for Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
C. Teaching and Managing Student Learning:
• Provide effective instruction to entire classes, groups, and individuals, ensuring that teaching objectives are met while maintaining momentum and challenge, thereby maximizing instructional time.
• Utilize engaging teaching techniques that spark students’ intellectual curiosity, such as effective questioning, clear presentation, and optimal resource usage.
• Maintain high standards for student conduct, promoting discipline through focused teaching and fostering positive, productive relationships.
• Encourage positive behavior, enhance self-esteem, and promote independent work among students to aid their learning and development within an ICT context.
D. Assessment and Evaluation:
• Assess the degree to which learning objectives have been achieved and use these assessments to guide future teaching.
• Monitor and evaluate students’ classwork and homework, providing constructive oral and written feedback while establishing progress targets.
• When applicable, be aware of the expectations set for students regarding the National Curriculum, KS4, and KS5.
E. Relations with Parents and the Wider Community:
• Know how to prepare and present informative reports to parents.
• Recognize that learning extends beyond the school setting, offering opportunities to connect students' learning to real-world situations.
• Understand the significance of collaborating with external agencies.
F. Managing Own Performance and Development:
• Recognize the importance of taking responsibility for one’s professional development and staying updated on educational research and advancements in the subjects taught.
• Understand professional responsibilities as outlined by school policies, guidelines, and practices.
• Act as a positive role model for students through personal conduct and appearance.
• Reflect critically on one’s own teaching and leverage insights to improve effectiveness.
G. Managing and Developing Staff and Other Adults:
• Cultivate productive working relationships with professional colleagues, including co-teachers, specialist educators, and support staff.
H. Managing Resources:
• Select and effectively utilize books, equipment, ICT, and other educational resources to meet teaching objectives.
Skills/Qualifications:
• A Bachelor’s Degree and a teaching certificate or license with robust subject expertise.
• A minimum of 2 years of full-time teaching experience in a school setting.
