About This Role

Are you prepared to embark on your next professional adventure?

The Position
The British School of Ulaanbaatar is on the lookout for a fully qualified Teacher of Science (KS3-KS5) for an initial contract spanning two academic years, from August 2026 to July 2028, with potential for renewal thereafter. A comprehensive job description is attached for your reference. Applicants must have training in delivering the National Curriculum of England and Wales, and prior experience in UK or international schools following a British-style curriculum is strongly preferred. We encourage Early Career Teachers (ECTs) to apply, as the School offers a two-year Early Career Framework (ECF) programme.

We are in search of passionate, flexible, and creative educators who demonstrate cultural awareness and a sense of adventure. Ideally, candidates should be capable of teaching CIE AS & A Level Biology.

In addition to the teaching duties associated with this role, BSU actively encourages participation in a variety of extracurricular activities, and all teachers are expected to contribute. We especially welcome candidates who are enthusiastic about engaging with the Ulaanbaatar community and beyond. Please consult the attached provisional Academic Year Calendar for 2026-27.

The Institution
Founded in 2012, the British School of Ulaanbaatar is recognized as one of the leading educational establishments in Central Asia, committed to delivering an education that promotes both academic excellence and personal growth for students aged three to eighteen. We take pride in our strong academic results and the diverse educational opportunities we provide.

The School follows curricula from Cambridge International, preparing students for IGCSEs and A-Levels. Most of our graduates successfully secure places at prestigious international universities around the globe. We welcome both expatriate and Mongolian families while fostering a close-knit and community-oriented environment. BSU holds full accreditation from the Council of British International Schools (COBIS) and is a member of the UNESCO Associated Schools Network, the Association of British Schools Overseas (AoBSO), and the Council of International Schools (CIS). The latest BSO inspection was conducted in March 2026.

The Location
Ulaanbaatar, the capital city of Mongolia, showcases a striking blend of modern architecture alongside historic lamaseries and traditional ger neighborhoods. The city features a lively social scene where locals and expatriates interact seamlessly. It offers direct flights to several major international centers, including Seoul, Tokyo, Frankfurt, and Istanbul, as well as to more remote domestic destinations.

Set against stunning landscapes, Ulaanbaatar provides numerous opportunities for outdoor activities and cultural experiences. Adventurous souls can engage in trekking, horseback riding, skiing, cycling, and camping, exploring the lakes, forests, mountains, and deserts of this beautiful country.

Mongolia experiences a climate of extremes, but low humidity levels render both summer and winter conditions more tolerable than the temperatures might suggest. Frequent high-pressure systems lead to clear blue skies, allowing staff to enjoy the dramatic scenery. The air quality in Ulaanbaatar has significantly improved over the past five years due to government initiatives promoting smokeless fuels.

Terms and Conditions
The initial contract is anticipated to commence on or around Monday, August 17, 2026, coinciding with the induction and onboarding period for new staff. Salaries are competitive and based on experience. Additional benefits include complete tuition fee waivers for dependent children attending the School, medical insurance, and allowances for flights and luggage at the start and end of the contract. On-campus furnished accommodation is available, which is preferred by most expatriate staff. Full details regarding terms and conditions will be shared following successful interviews.

Application Process
To apply for this position, candidates must submit the following:

A completed TES online application form that includes detailed information about qualifications, professional training, and prior employment, along with a cover letter expressing your interest and suitability for the role, highlighting relevant skills and attributes;
Contact details for at least two referees, one of whom should be your current or most recent employer (Head of School/Principal or Chair of the Governing Body).

All required documents must be submitted via the TES Portal. The application deadline is Friday, April 10, 2026. Early submissions are encouraged, as interviews will be conducted online as soon as possible, and the School reserves the right to appoint candidates before the deadline. The recruitment process will occur online, and only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

The British School of Ulaanbaatar is dedicated to the safeguarding and well-being of children and young people, requiring all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The School’s Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy, along with the Whistleblowing Policy, is included in this advertisement, and we recommend that all interested individuals review these documents before applying.

Successful candidates in the interview process can expect to undergo extensive background and reference checks, as well as provide personal and medical information necessary for entry into Mongolia. Referees will be asked to confirm that applicants are not involved in any ongoing safeguarding or disciplinary investigations and are unaware of any circumstances that would inhibit them from working with children.

Candidates from the U.K. will undergo a vetting and barring check prior to arriving in Mongolia, with equivalent checks required for applicants of other nationalities. Furthermore, all candidates must provide certificates of good conduct from every country where they have resided and worked. Applicants should note that any previous criminal activity or convictions on their permanent record will disqualify them from employment with BSU and residency in Mongolia.
