About This Role

Job Purpose: The aim is to provide exceptional learning experiences in Performing Arts that ignite creativity, self-expression, and individual growth. The Performing Arts teacher will play a vital role in the comprehensive development of each student, guided by the principles of Always Learning, Caring, One Team, and Excellence, while also embracing the IB learner attributes and NCfE vocational principles.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching and Learning

  • Design, prepare, and deliver high-caliber Performing Arts lessons that are in line with the IB Philosophy and NCfE standards.
  • Cultivate creativity, confidence, and self-expression through dynamic, inquiry-driven experiences in drama, music, dance, and performance.
  • Tailor teaching methods to accommodate diverse abilities and learning styles, ensuring that every student reaches their full potential.
  • Promote student reflection, collaboration, and an appreciation for the performing arts both within and outside the classroom.

Curriculum and Assessment

  • Participate in the development and evaluation of the Performing Arts curriculum to ensure it aligns with PYP frameworks and NCfE vocational standards.
  • Create authentic, process-oriented assessment tasks that highlight student creativity and monitor growth in skills, knowledge, and conceptual understanding.
  • Employ a variety of formative and summative assessment techniques that align with PYP practices.
  • Keep precise records of student achievements and contribute to reports, portfolios, and performances.

Collaboration and Community

  • Collaborate with the Arts Team to weave Performing Arts into units of inquiry and transdisciplinary learning experiences.
  • Take part in school events such as productions, assemblies, concerts, and community arts projects.
  • Build strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues, fostering a culture of care and inclusivity.

Professional Growth

  • Show commitment to Always Learning by participating in continuous professional development and reflective practices.
  • Stay updated on current trends in arts education, developments in the IB, and technology integration.
  • Contribute to a culture of Excellence by sharing insights, mentoring peers, and pursuing ongoing improvement.

Skills Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Performing Arts, Drama, Music, Dance, or a related discipline is required. A teaching qualification (e.g., B.Ed., PGCE, or equivalent) is necessary.
  • Experience: Familiarity with the IB PYP framework and/or British/NCfE is highly desirable. A minimum of 2 years teaching experience in Performing Arts within a school environment, preferably in an international or IB context, is essential.
  • Language: Proficiency in English is required; knowledge of Arabic is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Skills: Strong classroom management skills, effective lesson planning, and the ability to motivate students of various abilities and ages.
