About This Role

GEMS American Academy in Qatar is seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to become part of our High School team. The anticipated start date for this position is 01 August 2026.

Key Responsibilities include:
- Uphold and inspire the ethos and standards of excellence as outlined in the GEMS Core Values.
- Deliver the specified curriculum, demonstrating thorough and current knowledge of the subject matter.
- Plan and present engaging lessons to inspire students. Develop and utilize suitable materials and classroom environments to accommodate various learning styles.
- Provide written documentation of planning and preparation when requested. Maintain accurate records of curriculum plans, yearly objectives, attendance, teaching resources, assessment strategies, and more.
- Adhere to GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct at all times.
- Teach assigned students according to their individual needs, employing suitable teaching strategies that cater to diverse abilities, including late entrants, ESL learners, students with lower academic performance, and those who are gifted and talented.
- Assign and evaluate student work. Assess, document, and report on students’ academic growth, progress, and achievements, utilizing assessments to tailor the curriculum to meet individual student needs.
- Demonstrate proficiency in using media and technology effectively within the classroom.
- Support the overall progress and well-being of students, offering guidance on educational matters.
- Communicate with external stakeholders when appropriate, such as officials from the Ministry of Education.
- Engage in appraisal and Performance Management processes as well as Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- Collaborate with colleagues in the preparation and development of teaching materials, resources, courses of study, and pastoral care arrangements.
- Participate in and lead, when suitable, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities within the school. Foster positive working relationships through proactive leadership and the sharing of ideas, materials, and experiences.
- Monitor and oversee safe and appropriate behavior among students. Develop and implement strategies that promote self-discipline and effectively manage disruptive behavior.
- Model and promote cultural awareness and understanding, fostering a love for learning.
- Assist in organizing school events and functions such as inter-house competitions, concerts, school plays, and prize days.
- Regularly communicate with parents, promoting the GEMS philosophy and core values; keep parents updated on their children’s progress while maintaining confidentiality regarding student information.
- Show initiative and commitment by going beyond the standard workday when tasks demand additional effort.
- Attend staff meetings and participate in committees as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by direct and indirect reporting line managers or supervisors.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
*Estimated range based on regional data averages.
