ROLE SUMMARY:
Vilamoura International School (CIV), a prominent educational institution located in southern Portugal, provides Pre-School, Primary, and Secondary Education through a variety of national and international curricula, including Cambridge programs and the International Baccalaureate (IB).
Nestled in a distinctive natural setting and boasting an expansive 18,500 m² outdoor play area, CIV has spent over 40 years cultivating an educational approach that encourages early learning, inquiry-based education, and a values-centric philosophy rooted in democratic and humanistic ideals.
CIV is committed to academic excellence and is currently on the lookout for an IB Computer Science Teacher to begin in August for the upcoming academic year. The selected individual will instruct Computer Science from Key Stage 3 through to examination classes within our International Curriculum. While experience with the IB Diploma Programme is highly valued, candidates with robust backgrounds in other international frameworks (such as Cambridge IGCSE/A Level or equivalent) are also welcome to apply.
The perfect candidate will promote computational thinking, problem-solving abilities, and creativity, allowing students to gain a deep conceptual understanding of computer science principles and their practical applications in the real world.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, prepare, and deliver captivating and challenging Computer Science lessons for both lower and upper secondary levels.
- Teach Computer Science at Key Stage 3 and at examination levels (e.g. IB Diploma Programme, IGCSE, A Level, or equivalent), depending on expertise and school requirements.
- Equip students for internal and external assessments in accordance with the applicable examination framework.
- Create and administer formative and summative assessments that align with international standards.
- Encourage inquiry-based learning through programming, algorithmic thinking, system design, and computational problem-solving.
- Assist students in gaining practical programming skills and theoretical knowledge of essential Computer Science concepts.
- Adapt instruction to accommodate students with diverse abilities and learning profiles.
- Track and support student progress, providing timely and constructive feedback to students and their families.
- Participate in curriculum development, departmental planning, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues from various departments to foster interdisciplinary learning and digital innovation.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
- A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
- A recognized teaching qualification.
- Experience teaching Computer Science within an international curriculum (IB Diploma experience is highly desirable).
- Experience preparing students for external examinations (e.g. IB, IGCSE, A Level, or equivalent).
- Strong subject knowledge, including programming and computational theory.
- A dedication to inquiry-based, student-centered learning.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and classroom management abilities.
- The capacity to inspire and motivate students in a multicultural, international environment.
- A collaborative spirit and a willingness to engage in broader school activities.
- High professional standards, integrity, and a commitment to safeguarding and student welfare.
