About This Role

GEMS Wellington Academy – Al Khail is looking to hire an exceptional Head of Year (Prep School) starting in August 2026. The ideal candidate will oversee a year group, ensuring the delivery of high-quality education, strong student outcomes, and a nurturing environment where every pupil can succeed.

Job Purpose: The Head of Year will provide leadership within the year group, collaborating closely with teachers and the Pupil Wellbeing Team to maintain high standards in teaching, learning, and pastoral care. This role also involves fostering staff development and contributing to overall school improvement.

Key Responsibilities:
- Drive teaching and learning initiatives within the year group, ensuring consistency and high standards.
- Track pupil progress, behavior, and attendance, providing support when necessary.
- Mentor and guide teachers to enhance their classroom practices.
- Encourage a positive culture focused on wellbeing, behavior, and achievement.
- Collaborate with parents to support student progress and development.
- Organize year group meetings, planning sessions, and significant events.
- Uphold safeguarding and pupil wellbeing within the year group.
- Assist with transitions, admissions, and induction processes.
- Plan and manage trips, enrichment activities, and year group events.
- Support staff performance management and professional growth.
- Participate in school-wide initiatives and contribute to improvement planning.

Skills:
- Proven experience in a leadership role within an educational setting.
- Strong familiarity with the British curriculum and inspection standards.
- Exceptional communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Capability to lead, inspire, and develop staff members.
- Recognized teaching qualification (PGCE or equivalent).
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related discipline; additional qualifications are advantageous.
