About This Role
GEMS American Academy in Qatar is seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to become part of our Middle/High School team. The start date for this position is set for 01 August 2026.
Key Responsibilities encompass:
- Upholding and promoting the ethos and standards of excellence outlined in the GEMS Core Values.
- Delivering the prescribed curriculum while demonstrating thorough and current knowledge of both curriculum and subject content.
- Planning and conducting engaging lessons that inspire students, while creating and utilizing suitable materials and classroom environments tailored to diverse learning styles.
- Providing written evidence of planning and preparation upon request and maintaining records of curriculum and yearly plans, attendance, teaching resources, assessment plans, etc.
- Adhering to GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct consistently.
- Teaching assigned students according to their unique needs by employing effective teaching strategies that cater to varying abilities, including late entrants, ESL learners, students with lower academic abilities, and those who are gifted and talented.
- Setting and grading assignments, assessing, recording, and reporting on students' academic growth, progress, and achievements, using assessments to customize the curriculum to meet individual student needs.
- Demonstrating proficiency in utilizing media and technology within the classroom.
- Supporting the overall progress and well-being of students while offering guidance on educational matters.
- Communicating with external parties when necessary, such as officials from the Ministry of Education.
- Engaging in appraisal and Performance Management processes, as well as Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- Collaborating with colleagues to prepare and develop teaching materials, resources, courses of study, and pastoral arrangements.
- Participating in and leading, when suitable, the school's co-curricular and extra-curricular programs. Fostering positive working relationships through active leadership and sharing of ideas, materials, and experiences.
- Monitoring and overseeing appropriate student behavior while planning and implementing strategies to encourage self-discipline and manage any disruptive behavior.
- Modeling and promoting cultural awareness and understanding, as well as instilling a passion for learning.
- Assisting in the planning and organization of school events and functions, such as inter-house competitions, concerts, school plays, and prize days.
- Regularly communicating and meeting with parents to promote the GEMS philosophy and core values, while keeping them informed about their children's progress and respecting the confidentiality of student-related information.
- Demonstrating initiative and commitment beyond the standard workday when necessary.
- Attending staff meetings and serving on committees as required.
- Performing additional duties as directed by direct and dotted line managers/supervisors.
