About This Role

Al Rabeeh Academy is looking for a dedicated and skilled Head of Science to become part of our vibrant, high-achieving team starting in August 2026.

In your role as Head of Science at an international British curriculum institution, you will be instrumental in enhancing the quality of teaching and learning across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5, which includes GCSE and A Level courses in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. You will lead, manage, and nurture a team of Science educators, establishing clear expectations, offering coaching and professional development, and ensuring that teaching standards, learning quality, and student outcomes remain consistently high throughout the department. Your responsibilities will include overseeing curriculum design, assessment strategies, data analysis, and plans for departmental improvement, all while fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and high performance.

You will advocate for a robust STEM culture within the school, promoting hands-on, inquiry-based learning and interdisciplinary collaboration. Additionally, you will ensure that our laboratory facilities are safe, well-equipped, and conducive to innovative teaching and academic excellence.

Your leadership will shape the department's strategic vision, guiding and mentoring staff while integrating engaging, concept-driven instruction that enhances students’ analytical and problem-solving abilities. What We're Looking For:

We are in search of a Head of Science who can:

• Deliver high-quality, engaging Science instruction in alignment with the British Curriculum, capable of teaching and overseeing Biology, Chemistry, and Physics up to GCSE and A Level.

• Exhibit and promote strong scientific reasoning, inquiry skills, and practical applications, ensuring that departmental teaching is innovative, challenging, and effective.

• Implement a variety of formative and summative assessment methods to track and enhance student progress and achievement across all key stages and science subjects.

• Lead curriculum planning, sequencing, and development across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, ensuring coherence, progression, and alignment with examination standards.

• Guide, manage, mentor, and support Science department members, fostering high teaching, learning, laboratory practices, and professional ethics.

• Ensure compliance with health and safety protocols in laboratories and practical learning spaces, adhering to school policies and best practices.

• Promote the academic and pastoral wellbeing of students, reinforcing the school’s values, routines, and expectations throughout the department.

• Build strong, positive relationships with parents and caregivers, clearly communicating curriculum objectives, student progress, and future steps.

• Actively participate in school improvement initiatives, professional development, and the broader school community.

Qualifications and Experience:

Candidates must:

• Be fluent in English.

• Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Education or a relevant field with PGCE / QTS (or an equivalent teaching qualification).

• Have experience teaching the English National Curriculum, ideally in an international context.

• Demonstrate strong classroom management skills and a commitment to student wellbeing.

• Possess excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational abilities.

• Exhibit strong leadership capabilities with the aptitude to guide and coach a team.
